Wisky did not want Jordan Bohannon because he was not athletic enough

Now to be fair, didn't we offer Bohannon after getting snubbed by Charlie Moore and Xavier Simpson?

I could be remembering it wrong, but didn't we offer JoBo after the summer session

not sure of the timeline to be honest but ti was the summer of 2015 when iowa offered, i believe

Least half this board didn't want him. How clutch has he been on back to back roads wins vs Maryland and Wisconsin.

I will be honest; i did not know much about Jordan at all and did not say anything until watching him actually play a Division I game. I think he has held his own and then some.

I have learned something about recruiting, especially after the Tyler Ulis fiasco; don't worry too much until the player commits and stars don't mean much. We have seen 4 star players not play that great and we have seen 3 stars leave the program because they were not a good fit. Jordan appears to be a good fit :)

Gesell and Sapp we're good Hawks but if Iowa had Bohannon last year they would have been scary good

Honestly I was really happy with Iowa finally landing a Bohannon. I don't really follow recruiting that hard. As someone who grew up with two older brothers, there is a level of toughness that develops in you. This kid had two older brothers who are also high level division 1 basketball players. His moxie is not surprising to me at all. Dude has spent his entire life, since the time he could pick up a basketball, playing against high level competition. It's not surprising at all.

The chip on his shoulder is a brick, and he straight up knows how to work things into his favor. I forget what game it was, Ohio St or Purdue? Where he was dribbling the ball up the court, saw the dude behind him, stopped and drew a foul(tried it tonight, Calhoun saw it). That is some nonsense you learn growing up playing against everyone who is bigger than you.

Love his game, was happy the hawks landed him, and even happier watching him play. The kid is nails.

Just finished watching the game online after getting home from work and not knowing the outcome. Once Cordell got the rebound and passed it to him, and the ball went up, I got out of my chair with my arms raised because even I KNEW it was going in. HUGE!!!!! Love this team.

hey Jay..

Just a reminder, he missed two free throws at home that probably would have us in the tourney right now.

..he did...course it wasn't free throws to win the game...like the last shot last night. I think one could look at several reasons why we lost the Illinois game (not just his 2 FT misses)...in fact if memory serves me right the only reason we had a shot was the shooting percentages of Jok, Cook & JBo..everybody else were woeful.

but your point is well taken...I'm sure we shouldn't expect JBo to hit every game winner during the course of his career but it sure is nice to be on this side of it...seems in the past we have not been there as often as not.

Wow, Bohannon continues to amaze. The kid is calm under fire ... Makes his teammates better ... Can shoot the 3 and makes good decisions. It's been fun to watch him mature during the season. Toward the end last night's game I kept saying to myself: Iowa basketball is going to awfully fun to watch the next few years ... Give this team credit ... Wow, they are coming together.

I've had to watch all four of the Bohannon brothers beat up on our high school teams over the last decade plus. Of course, the first three went somewhere other than Iowa. Watch Jordan play four years of varsity ball. He could always shoot and handle the ball. I had some concern about his size and defense coming out of high school.......but I guess that is why I am not a D-1 basketball recruiter. I like the fact that I can finally have a Bohannon on the team that I am rooting for.

Welcome back Siena Jay! Not to be too creepy, but I've missed your posting. You perfectly prepared us on what to expect from Fran, and I look forward to hearing whatever you have to say.

From HawkCentral:

Bohannon acknowledged afterward that there was a great deal of bounce in his step heading into the game. Wisconsin never recruited him, and he hasn't forgotten.

"This game kind of meant more to me, especially (since) I was overlooked in the recruiting process. A lot of people doubted me," he said. "But coach (Fran) McCaffery was one of the ones that believed in my abilities. So this is another game that I wanted to prove myself out there that I can do this at the Big Ten level."

You could take the title of this thread and sub Wisky with about 75% of HR posters.

Jordan Bohannon don't give a ****.

So, does all this praise on Bo mean no more "elite point guard" threads?

Doubt it.

Don't get hung up on when it was announced publicly that Jordan was offered. Fran was on him for more than 3 years telling him he wanted him to be a Hawkeye. Believe me, if he wasn't feeling the love he wasn't coming.

He's such a bad fall back recruit.
I'm firmly in the JBO camp, but hindsight is 20/20 right? If we had received an earlier committment, we might not have offered Jordan either. I'm thrilled he's proving his skeptics wrong, and the kid is tough as nails, but lets be honest here.

And per his own statement if wisconsin had offered he probably wasn't coming then either. Great the way it turned out, not only because he's a hawk, but because he's not a badger!
