Who will be potential 149-165 targets?
Two obvious ones
Brands
Shapiro
I like Sasso, Lewan and Griffith.
Thoughts?
Also Troy is coming in.With Kem and Marinelli here for the next 4-5 years and Turk likely moving up to 149 after BS is gone I'm not sure we need to spend a whole lot on any of the weights. Brands will come in a do real well. Just my opinion though.
Yea, Nelson said it'd be weird wrestling anywhere but Iowa. There seems to be a lot of talk about Brands like it's a sure thing. Has he or Terry even mentioned it? I thought they were both being pretty tight lipped about it.
I have zero info, and I'm not trolling. Was just curious if there was anything other than being Terry's son to indicate he wants to wrestle in college, let alone at Iowa. Wrestling at Iowa is a huge commitment, not everyone wants that. Not everyone would want to wrestle for their Dad, or go to their Dad's alma mater when he's a legend, either.

He's taken some losses due to injury lately, but is much better then his current ranking. Is he? In any case, I don't think he's a high level recruit.
Do you really think it is more than a remote chance?
Nelson Brands is improving by the day. That said, he's a lock to Iowa, that much is certain. He's also an in-state recruit and Son of a Coach, just like Fran McCaffery, Iowa can "play" with his scholarship a bit, cause Dad can afford some of the hit. (clearly not like Fran can, but point still stands). On Nelson, we also have no idea what level he can get to as a wrestler. Just because his dad got to the highest of levels doesn't mean Nelson will be that good, and it's unfair to compare him to it. Right now, Berge is a better wrestler, so it's even more unfair to paint this as "Brands can replace Berge".

I also think people are naive if they think Iowa doesn't have other kids in this weight range on the radar. Nelson Brands will EARN his spot in Iowa's lineup, or he'll sit, just like everybody else.
Troy is obviously much lower on the recruiting charts than Berge. There's a head to head matchup video between these two out there and Berge decimates him.Is he? In any case, I don't think he's a high level recruit.
Love the first hand account and detailed analysis. I have not heard much about Troy either before or after he committed, so it's good to get some info. Troy however is a talented kid. Had he not suffered the injury last year at Super 32, his season would've played out much differently. He wrestled Wick real tough and was closing the gap every time out. He took a loss to an unranked kid at states then had to wrestle back for 3rd. He will be favored to win a title this year and his stock will rise.
He's one of the few Iowa recruits that I've been able to see live and you get a show when he steps on the mat. He wrestles a high pace and is exciting to watch. He makes silly mistakes and puts himself in bad spots at times, but a couple years in the room battling with Marinelli, Kemmerer and Sorensen can only get him better. I bet he cracks the top ten at his weight nationally by the end of the season.
Fair enough. He IS getting better though. He's come a long way in a short amount of time it seems. I don't see the level of Iowa Fans inserting him in the lineup the way that you do however. Personal observation is all.I agree, I'm sure Iowa has other guys on the radar. I don't know if they're as good as Berge, but I also don't know if Berge can hold 149 for his whole career, and I don't think Berge is better than Kem or Marinelli. My point was simply that it's unfair to Nelson to paint him as a Berge replacement. He's just on that level thusfar. Obviously he has a great pedigree, but we can't just assume he'll get to that level.

Remote chance of what?
Yeah, I've been trying but unfortunately I'm pretty much the only dude in so cal obsessed with wrestling, so info is hard to come by. Plenty of worthless basketball info though. I looked at their (MLKs) wrestling schedule to see if they travel near my house. They don't. It's about 45 miles from my house to Riverside. I may just pony up for a dual at MLK but we'll know if he signed by then.socal could you do a little detective work and make sure troy is still on his way or I could wait a week until signing day(not near as fun)
