Wolf Hall

Wondered what happened to that guy. last I saw him, he was being hanged in the public square at Tehran.

Interesting take on the King Henry VIII period in England. Features Cromwell instead of Henry.

It always amazes that a horny king could cause a religious revolution just so he can continue to discard his old wives for new ones.

I can see it now, the CHARITABLE REPROPRIATION ACT OF 2015. The $$ confiscated from all the churches of all denominations will be used to fund the cost of relocating 20+ million undocumented "citizens" and their families across the lower 48.

Hilary would be elected POTUS from 2017-2025; Chelsea from 2025-2033 or until the Russians or Chinese divide the spoils amongst themselves.

I joked he would do this during the government shout down, give away our national parks under the guise that we couldn't maintain them.

Started Sunday night at 9 on Iowa Public TV. I recorded it and haven't watched yet, but am a little suprised that they chose to start it on the same day and time as the last half season of Mad Men.

I had never made the connection in my mind before but this was just a couple of years after Luther's 95 Theses. Obviously Cromwell was influenced by Luther, but I didn't realize the timing was so close.

It was also (as the show tells us) the same time that the Tyndale Bible became available. Per Wikipedia: "Tyndale's Bible is credited with being the first English translation ... directly from Hebrew and Greek texts. Furthermore it was the first English biblical translation that was mass-produced as a result of new advances in the art of printing."

Christendom in turmoil on several fronts.

People who watch PBS don't watch anything they can't get with rabbit ears.

While looking up Wolf Hall on IMDb I noticed that they are remaking the great 40-year-old period piece Poldark. Apparently it's currently showing in the UK and we will get it this summer. Based on the novels of Winston Graham. Here's the IMDb description:

Ross Poldark returns to England after fighting in the American Revolution. His family and friends thought he was dead. The woman he hoped to marry is now engaged to his cousin. His father is dead, and the property he has inherited has been allowed to deteriorate. It is the late 1700s in Cornwall, England. This is a family drama, but is also about the challenges and conflicts between the rich and the poor. It is a time when fishermen are not catching much fish, tin and copper mines are closing down because prices are too low, but the price of food and rents are high. Ross faces the challenge of making his land productive, caring for the tenants who rely on him, and trying to win back the woman he loved - or finding a reason to live without her.

I was kind of disappointed in the first episode; TC was successful because he outworked, outschemed, and outsmarted everyone (which was stressed in the books). In the first episode he just wandered about with a pained look on his face while things kept happening to him. Hopefully he wakes from his coma in future episodes.
