Ok...there has to be some weird rules about what individuals can be ranked.

The rankings are based on the individual rankings....Iowa has Taylor ranked second at 116 and Estrella ranked 3rd at 136....22 points.

Not going to pretend to understand their rankings....even Deede as a defending champion is not ranked.

So looking at the number #1s

These are the ones Iowa wrestlers have beaten head to head. Last year at US age group nationals we had two wrestlers finish ahead of Avila...Taylor won ahead of Gallegos (didn't wrestle head to head)

I am sure there is an example...but I didn't find a loss of one of ours to any of the #1s. Only found the four we wrestled..by five different Iowa women...7 matches...7 and 0.

101 Maddie Avila
109 Sydney Petzinger
116 Jaslynn Gallegos...Taylor, Taylor one by TF, one by Fall.
123 Amani Jones
130 Cameron Guerin
136 Yele Aycock
143 London Houston...Schmit, Mir, Mir...all three by fall
155 Dalia Garibay...Deede (in last years final)
170 Chey Bowman
191 Traeh Haynes...Foeller by fall

They wrestle 2 teams ahead of them by Nov 12, East Stroud and Sacred Heart. Then I think the #1 is at there first open in Missouri. We should know by end of November how they stack up. I think all of there meets and tournaments in November are on BTN+ or Flo.

I read these rankings a day or two ago and I realized that I know absolutely nothing about woman’s wrestling. We’ll see.

As said above...it will change. I just posted because it was funny that so many Iowa women did get ranked...including a defending champion transfer.
Wait until the women in New York/ New Jersey area start getting into wrestling, they’re going to dominate. Those girls dont take shit and are athletic.

So, right there with the men's team.

Um no

The joke was their ranking. Anything can and will happen....but the woman on the Iowa team are amazing. Most of the #1 ranked have very little experience competing at the Senior level...Iowa has women ranked in the top ten at the Senior level that will probably not be part of the 15 they send to nationals.

Beat the Streets has been training female wrestlers in NYC for quite some time.

My son considered wrestling for the men’s team at three of those schools. He actually did wrestle for Ursinus his Frosh year before he decide wrestling in college wasn’t nearly as fun as in HS and quit.

Does Iowa have a policy on trans-wrestlers? Just curious since I see men invading women's sporting events at an increasing rate. Seems inevitable at some point if the current trajectory holds.

Not sure if the NCAA has specific rules regarding transgender athletes in wrestling or if they follow UWW guidelines, but I assume the University of Iowa wouldn't implement anything stricter than that
