At the Iowa Women's victory over Missouri, the crowd definitely helped propel the team to victory. I had to keep standing because the team asked us to and everyone stood up. The women were down 18-25. We stood up. We cheered. We booed. We were raucous. That was a bunch of us grey, bald, or blue-haired fans. Suddenly (it seemed), it was 58-41 Iowa. The team outscored Missouri 40-16. The Iowa women wouldn't back down, and we supported them with our voices and hands and feet. We wouldn't let them lose, and they didn't.

All of that was without very many students, with a band that got outplayed because it was split with the men, with cheerleaders that got outcheered because the squad was split with the men. I was proud to be an old fart sitting in section A row 15, standing and cheering my team to victory.

I don't know, if what I saw on TV was any indication, they should go with that cheer squad more often................

Btw, watching the replays, it definitely looked like a '90s crowd in there. Lot of casual-looking (non die-hard, crazy fans) people there to just support the women's team in their last home game and the crowd had fun with it.

I think that I may have heard you cheering...over the radio! :) I caught the last 6 minutes or so of the game on the radio and it was really neat to hear such a vocal crowd supporting such a fine team.

It was very evident over the radio broadcast that Carver was LOUD for the ladies. Great stuff! Great win for the women BBallers and what a great memory for the team to know that they had such excellent support from their fans. The radio broadcaster mentioned that Iowa had the biggest crowd of the WNCAA tourney games on Friday and had a good chance of doing it again based on today's crowd. Congrats to the team and the fans!!

I too tuned in via the radio. It was rocking. The PA guy was also rocking the house as well and the music selection seemed to be legit and fitting for the sequence.

Hats off to everyone in attendance.

Carver was awesome yesterday. Start to finish. Damn near all of us stood damn near every defensive possession. Finally I didn’t have to feel like a dick for wanting to stand and clap and yell and chant all game long. We were all dicks yesterday.

The NIT game against Dayton also showed that Carver can get rocking.
As did the NIT game vs Stoney Brook. That was a great game! Super fun to be at. We gave the other team a standing ovation after the game. I was there for the first half yesterday. It was a lot of fun. Would have been really amazing if the men did end up winning. Lots of people were watching on their phone. If J Bo made a shot at the buzzer to win the whole stadium would have randomly erupted.

I've said this in all of the threads about the CHA atmosphere...all of the remodeling suggestions, bell and whistles, and incentives don't matter. To get good crowds at Carver, you only need 2 things: a successful and fun team that fans enjoy rooting for; energetic and committed fans who set the expectation that "this" is how we do it until it become the routine and new normal.

I have to give some credit to Megan Gustafson's mother. She was awesome. From her seat in Section AA, on every Missouri possession she started standing up and waving the crowd around her to do the same until the whole stadium was rocking.

MG's family kept trying to get the wave going around Carver but people were not cooperating.

That is great victor. Iowa BB needs you and your crowd to come through more often. Thanks for supporting, it makes a difference.

Also not trying to rain on your parade, however, lets wait until the Iowa men get 1st and 2nd round NCAA tournament games in CHA before we crown which fans can be if they want to be the loudest and most engaged. I do not think you will be surprised which would be the loudest since this crowd would be all new ticket buyers reseated on first come first seated. The book reading knitting crossword puzzlers ice cream eaters likely would be shut out.

And to the OP. As the seating is setup now in CHA with the what you called "grey, bald, or blue-haired fans" in the closest seats, how can we get those fans like you rock'n the CHA for the men's games? Clearly at the women's game they showed they are all very capable. What changes do you suggest as NCAA tournament home games do not come around very often and likely never will for the men. Thanks.

Try having a classy coach and players who look like they're having fun together.

Just great. Superfans show up one game a year and tell us how great they are.

Iowa State and Iowa seem to draw pretty well. I see ISU 3rd and Iowa 13th in 2017-18, and I'm pretty sure Iowa was better his year. I understand why in a year like this that a few thousand more would want to go support them and lead the nation in attendance for the two games in the NCAA tournament at CHA.

Honestly, when Missouri's cheerleaders got on the court, I had to fight the urge to cheer on them because they looked so much like Iowa's cheerleaders in the black and gold dresses. Even the gold color is like Iowa's, not like Purdue. I guess their preferred colors for the pom poms are white and gold, so that's a difference.

It's the games that are not as exciting as an NIT game or a women's NCAA game or a game against the top half of the BIG that are is challenge to get the crowd going in Carver. Premier games were never a problem getting the crowd involved. But then again, stick your heads in the sand and pretend nothing is wrong with the student seating, because a few games provide excitement. Carry on....

I never thought I would hear myself say this but Iowa Women’s games are sooo much more fun than Men’s games. I could have told you this a few years ago, it wasn’t unique to the NCAA games.

As others have said, it's all about how good the team is. There is always a (relatively) good atmosphere for women's hoops at Iowa, but 2 years ago when they were not a NCAA team, the atmosphere at Carver for the women was pretty sedated. You have an all-time great player and a team that was in contention for a Big 10 title this year, the women's crowds were very good. And if the men would have been hosting NCAA games, the crowd would have been rocking.

Yes, there are problems with Carver. But nothing that good product on the floor would not solve. That and price points where fans could more easily go to games. I know they don't want to discourage people from buying season tickets by slashing prices for individual games, but there has to be a balance somewhere.

come on victor. Get back in here and help us answer this question. You started this thread.

Don't throw shade and then, like your crowd(older fans, your words not mine), run for the top concourse to beat the crowd.

We don''t hear from your crowd much in here and I really value you and your crowds opinion on this. Barta would also.

I didn't mean to throw shade. I do what I can to support the women's team, staying until the women wave to the crowd at the end of the game. I work to get others to the games. Bigger crowds create an entirely different vibe, but I dunno how to get people to games.

Thanks Victor. You are the type of fans we need more of.

You and the women's team this year have opened my eyes to them and I plan on going to their games in the future.
