Indiana has struggled to fine a consistent winner after The General left. Kelvin Sampson was probably the best one of the bunch but that was short lived. They remind me so much of Nebraska in football. Passionate fan bases that have unrealistic expectations. Blue bloods that had success back in the day but just couldn't find that coach to get them back to some sort of relevence. This is a waking giant with right hire but not counting on it!

Bigger point is why was he at 4 different schools? Wears out his welcome it appears, as Hawk fans know.

Matt Painter has established himself as the Best coach in B1G. Same state in Indiana, different result.

Gard looked to be on the ropes trying to follow-up Bo Ryan, but he's pulled the rabbit out of hat again.

What we have in Fran is the only coach in NCAA basketball that thinks all you have to do is score. It's a wonder
Fran's schtick was good enough to be mediocre for past 14 years.

I think Indiana fans should realistically expect to be good every year. Huge basketball school with great support. Blue Blood school. I don't think there are being that unrealistic expecting a lot more.

Those are the fans.
The fabled history of IU basketball is as relevant as typewriters for an 18 year old.

Mike Davis took them to a national final. Then got sh*t canned.

I've never cared for that fan base. They're Kentucky lite as far as arrogance and sense of entitlement goes.

Nebraska was the same in football, they're not realistic any longer.

Coaches like Osborne and the general are once in a lifetime.

Not even close to same comparison. Nebraska took advantage of no academic requirements, shady walk on program, and roids to win over a stretch of years. Indiana's location alone is night and day more beneficial than Lincoln. Indiana has just had horrible coaches.

Who's the other one that shares the glory w/ Alford?

Personally I'm of the opinion that winning at Indiana for a coach is essentially basketball immortality. I'd also hate to be an Indiana basketball fan knowing it may well never happen again given that status. But I've always felt Indiana is the bluest of blue bloods. I'm sure others would disagree but that's how I see it.

Gard is still on the ropes.

I know Hawk fans mostly hate Alford, but I don't believe he is a bad coach. If PP hadn't turned out to be a pervert, his tenure at Iowa could have been a lot better. Injuries to the center (Jared Reiner), in Alford's first class at Iowa, which was one of the better recruiting classes ever at Iowa, kept those teams from being very successful. Redshirting Sommerville (?), causing him to transfer, also impacted Alford's remaining years at Iowa.

I've watched him live at SD State games. He does coach good defense and has had some good talent at Reno. But he's just such an arrogant A-hole. I wouldn't be surprised is a team takes a chance on him again. He's won over 600 games.

He is an arrogant POS, but so are a lot of successful coaches.
