World Cup Day 2

Snyder seems to quite a bit stronger than this guy. (And just about everyone in the world, for that matter)

It is pretty impressive that a country the size of Iran and the economic conditions over there have a team that can compete and also beat the USA.

Wrestling in Iran is what football is in the USA or what soccer is to places like Argentina, Brazil, etc. It is not just a sport, but a way of life for so many.

I know it is the national sport. I am just saying it is impressive.

I wrestled over there in 1978 and it was a life changing trip for me. I would really be a total idiot and loser if I hadn't gone there. As it is, I am only about 70% idiot and loser.

Maybe I should have gone a couple more times. :)

Just curious. What level of competition?

Everytime I watch an international Freestyle event....makes me wonder if we wouldn't be a little more competitive if we didn't bring our youth up wrestling folkstyle....watching the Iranians they are such masters of the technique freestyle requires....boy I tell you with the rule changes I honestly think I enjoy Freestyle more than folk....love the fact that riding isn't such a big part of it....the criteria instead of overtime kinda sucks

DT has fully grown out his beard, which means he has officially arrived as a senior level world wrestler.
Great tourney by DT. 60/40 in favor of DT when he meets Cox at this point.

Taylor has always been an amazing wrestler, but I do think Cox presents him some of the same challenges that Dake does. It's a match I really couldn't call one way or the other.

Did you fall for a nice Persian man? I kid of course.
I did not fall for a Persian man although one (a wrestler that took us around and travelled with us a bit) did try to hold my hand as we walked. I guess it is a sign of respect and friendship over there. It kind of threw me for a loop. When we left to come back to America, I gave him a t shirt as a present. He then went in the other room and took his shirt off, washed it and gave it to me as a present. I was touched. Of course, I still did not like to hold his hand though.

I was wrestling on a Junior College national team.

Yes sir...you are correct. I forgot that Cael invented the ankle pick. A thousand pardons.

No your right. DT's dad driving him to Utah up to 3 days a week for years to get to learn and train with the Sandersons didn't teach him an ankle pick. Wait you did know he grew up in Wyoming and lived about 1.5hrs aways from the Sandersons? He didnt move to Ohio till high school.

I agree. DT has big trouble with super athletes like Cox and Dake. Though, I am proud of him for his performance in the World Cup.

I also think Burroughs, although he perform well, has lost some quickness and can't rely on the double any longer. Burrough v. Dake is going to be epic. And, maybe Martinez and Dieringer move in too. We're weak at 57 and 125 and will be until Lee and Steveson mature.

I'd be interested if Ramos is even our top 57kg anymore. It might be Nico.
Stieber is a stud, just not an immortal one
Green was damn impressive this tournament
Burroughs, could be rust, could be age. Didn't look like himself, but man he's got the heart of a champion. With that said Dake smells blood.
DT is starting to fill out and being more comfortable with the weight change. I'd say he did ok considering he was a 3rd string prior to Dake moving.
Snyder, see Steiber
Gwiz/Rey, I think Gwiz' athleticism will do him well in the next year or so

I agree, freestyle rules are making for some exciting wrestling. If they would go completely to a control requirement (I hate the roll through 2s), it would be perfect.

These two are not on the same level.

Wonder if DT could get back down to 165 now? I'd almost rather see him instead of JB at this point and keep Cox where he is.

He doesn't want to see Dake again. Dake broke DT last time out.

I don't think Dake could get big enough to stay with Taylor at his current size and I don't think Taylor can beat Dake at 74Kgs. They will stay where they are. Burroughs may not beat Dake the next time. I hope he does, because I just plain and simple like the guy. (not in a hand holding way).

I think Garrett or Gilman will be the next representative for the world team at 125. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am never right about any of this stuff.

Gwiz represents us well. Lets hope he can make the transition to being a freestyle star also.
