Lets address these, point by point.
1. Trump has been going after EU countries, among others, about financing NATO.
You keep conflating the EU and NATO. They are separate entities.
That is not our role in NATO. That is a topic for all of NATO to deal with.
Do you expect the freeloaders to bring up the subject of the bill?
That's pretty naive.
They don't want to spend 2% of their GDP on 'defense'. They simply don't perceive the threat our MIC has stamped on the minds of our most gullible.
Add to that EU countries came to our aid when needed. So for him to threaten that we would turn out backs on them if they haven't paid up is laughable at best. Fact is, they may not show up for us again.
If they won't help us invade Afghanistan or Iraq I'm fine with that. We need to get out of the biz ASAP.
If Russia invades Poland tomorrow, how much help can Germany send?
This year they kept classified a readiness report that was supposed to published because,
"[t]he overall view allows such concrete conclusions about the current readiness of the Bundeswehr that knowledge by unauthorised individuals would harm the security interests of the Federal Republic of Germany"!
"The readiness levels of the CH-53 helicopter and Tornado fighter jets remained at the low levels seen in 2017, when an average 16 of 72 CH-53 helicopters were combat-ready, and 26 of 93 Tornado fighter jets."
2. Article 5 was invoked after 9/11. Real President Cheney and his trained pet monkey George told the US that it was Iraq who attacked us. They lied, obviously. It took over 5 years to for Bush to recant his false statements.
You're the one who conflated NATO and Iraq:
"Nobody squabbled when they went to Iraq. They went because Article 5 had been invoked and one of us (NATO member nations) had been attacked."
That's
your quote.
I simply pointed out that we didn't invoke Article 5 to invade Iraq. 'NATO' didn't go.
Your rejoinder was that the "UK and Poland, both EU members, were most certainly in Iraq," again conflating NATO and the EU.
Then, when another poster pointed out the Germans couldn't field rifles for exercises a few years ago you wrote, "They had guns when they went to Iraq on our behalf."
The Germans didn't invade Iraq with us.
This is why I can't figure out if you're confused, or just badly informed.
3. Poland has been a NATO nation since March 12th, 1999.
Yes, but they went into Iraq with us hoping we'd repay the favor by putting bases in their country. They're still begging us to do it. It wasn't a selfless act on their part to add 2,000 or so troops to our Iraq invasion.
All these other nations act with their interests foremost in mind.
I know what the thread is about, because I started it. So move along if you have a problem with it or me.
My problem is with you getting basic facts wrong, because I assume you form your opinions based on them.
Hell, if you knew what was actually happening you might even have a different opinion.
