Luka’s father, Frank, helped Luka achieve many of his goals. His off-season workout and footwork training definitely helped Luka in the post, and understanding the game in general. Frank Garza (and his bother) both played at in high level in Europe.

Think he could help any other present Iowa bigs and be an asset moving forward?

Too many people assume Luka's dad had everything to do with his development. For all anyone knows, the coaching staff developed the workouts for Luka to do over the summer and his dad put him through them. Even if his dad didn't put him through the workouts, Luka still would have worked his tail off. That is just the type of person he is.

Don't know, can he develop and coach interior defensive players? If so, he might be a good addition.

I think Frank's role in Luka's development was more personal than technical. I'm sure Luka and his coaches talked about what to work on, where he could improve, how to drill, etc. Frank was more of a motivator, mentor and life coach...and despite the mistakes in his professional past, looks like one hell of a Father.

Yeah.

Luka is who he is primarily because of himself.

Thats true of all great players.

No body talks about Jordan or Kobes coach.

They were great because they wanted it and had the talent to start with.

Luka was great because of his own combination of talent and work.

I think it was a unique situation where a former player father was able to teach old school basketball to his son from a very young age.

Most young big players aren't even receptive to that style of back to the basket game. They all want to play on the perimeter.

I would hire Frank as a marketing and sales rep only

Of all the ideas out there that might help Iowa basketball, this is not one of them.

2 things I want from Fran, a defensive coach and a front line player that can help Iowa rebound, play big and play defense next year. Hiring Frank is not one of them.

If he can make us faster, play defense, and put muscle on players’ bodies... then HELL YEA!

😜
