As, Marc Morehouse wrote last weekend ... Iowa is on deck. Camp is open and the season is here.
Well, thankfully, Iowa is under 3 weeks for the first game. Yesterday's kid's scrimmage was just that ... a scrimmage, showing the individual members of the Iowa Hawkeyes, that there is a lot of work needed on offense. The defense has some good leadership, but there is far too many explosive plays given up in 2014 that need to be resolved. Iowa must improve in special teams.
This is not a great Iowa team, but the opportunities are there to have a much better season, than 2012-2014 ...
One pre-season list had it as follows ...
No. 14 - Purdue
No. 13 - Indiana
No. 12 - Northwestern
No. 11 - Illinois
No. 10 - Rutgers
No. 9 - Iowa
2014 Record: 7-6 (4-4) - Could have been a great 2014 season if not for close losses to Wisconsin and Nebraska, as the Hawkeyes will search for payback this year to prove they belong.
No. 8 - Maryland
No. 7 - Penn State
No. 6 - Michigan
No. 5 - Minnesota - two huge wins @ Michigan, then @ Nebraska sparked Golden Gophers, otherwise ...
No. 4 - Nebraska
No. 3 - Wisconsin
No. 2 - Michigan State
No. 1 - Ohio State
In the West, Minnesota and Iowa find themselves in a similar position, likely ending the season at No.3 or No.4 in the standings. Minnesota lost their No.1 running back and top offensive threat to the NFL, while Iowa isn’t particularly great on either side of the ball, but they're good enough to finish in the top half of the division. - Random google article ...
Okay, can James Daniels be to Iowa, what Alex Lozan was to Auburn, as a true freshman?
No, Iowa isn't going to end that high, but respectfully, could Daniels help with some of the "nasty" needed in the trenches this season.
Iowa doesn't have the mojo of Auburn, but they also have the ability to have success this season.
peace
