Would Spencer Lee win an Olympic gold this year...

...if 48kg (105.6 lbs.) was still an Olympic weight?

1996 was the last year this weight was contested. Did counties (USA included) typically use high school athletes for 48kg and maybe even 52kg (114.4 lbs.)?

I'm glad they changed the lowest weight after '96, but this hypothetical is intriguing to me.

No. We just made Tarp cut off a leg to get down to 114

Also, does anyone wanna take a stab at who USA would have had at these weights in '00, '04, '08, and '12?

This is impossible to know. I have no idea what other stud 105 pounders any other country would have.

Just ask 21 Guns, he's probably talked to the coaches from other countris about it

I talked to coaches from the WPIAL. That stands for "Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League". That's where Gavin Teasdale wrestles, in district 7 in Pennsylvania, which is the Pittsburgh suburban area. I have good friends at other schools, such as Hampton, Canon-MacMillan, Moon Township, Avella, Trinity, and 3 other schools. Everyone I know who follows the sport and coaches the sport, says it will take Teasdale at least 4 years to become a LEGIT 133 pounder who is not giving up size and strength to other real 33 pounders who are pulling weight to get there. Walking around at the weight, is not the same thing, ask Jimmy Gulibon, who sacrificed by moving up, and ended up wrestling every single match, out sized.

4 years, minimum. Again, the kid is an elite talent, but he is not a 133 pounder, and won't be for quite some time.

Was Spencer born in 2000 yet? I'd definitely have him for 04,08, and 12 teams.

Ok...Sorry Jones, I'm done.

The great Bobby Weaver was 26 when he won in 84 at 105.5. It seemed that there were always some older little guys out there ready to go but when the college weights moved up, it put them out of business.

Is Teasdale going to be a junior in HS?

I can picture him speeding up the process and getting where he needs to be, weight wise, in 44 months instead of the 48 everyone in western PA agrees that it will take him and being ready to go for Midlands his second year in the room.

If I had a crystal ball like you obviously do, I would use it to get future lottery numbers and time the stock market instead of worrying about a 16 year old's weight.

Somebody other than myself is obviously worried, about 14 hate posts, ad hominem attacks, and replies, simply from suggesting what I have seen, and heard, from everyone who lives here, and has seen the kid wrestle over 100 times, rather than somebody from Iowa City, Davenport, Ames, or any other city in the midwest.

No worries here amigo, just telling it like it is: You have two elite talents, who will take 4 years to separate themselves in weight. When they do, you will have, exactly what you have, wait for it....

RIGHT NOW, in Gilman and Clark!

Really?

What about Gavin Teasdale, reminds you of Jordan Oliver or David Taylor? His height? Expound if you will...

Curious then, how long will it take Lee to be a legit 125 pounder?

21guns, with all due respect, being adamant about what a sophomore in HS will weigh in 3 or 4 years is pretty iffy. Have you seen his x-rays? Have his epiphyseal growth plates closed yet? Look at Zahid Valencia... or David Taylor... or Kyle Dake... etc. Puh-leez.

If Bradon Teasdale from Jefferson Morgan was his father he was a 90lb 13 year old
https://news.google.com/newspapers?...AIBAJ&sjid=nF0NAAAAIBAJ&pg=5669,5495874&hl=en

and wrestled 140 as a sr.

I would say that is a decent predictor of growth. Better than a bunch of PA coaches and fans that hope him and Lee end up at the same weight.
Except that's not what I am saying. I am saying that it's going to take a longer time frame for him to move up....right now, he will be wrestling one weight classification LOWER than Lee, next year.

My guess is that Lee and Teasdale will both be ranked higher nationally coming out of HS than TG and CC were. Do you disagree?

Really?

You say Lee needs 48 months to get to an optimal weight, I claim he needs only 44 months, a difference of roughly 8%. Is there really anything to argue about here?

For what it's worth,Tony Ramos was never a legit 133 pounder - sometimes you just have to make due with what you got. Tony even went up to 141 and beat Devin Carter. So 21Guns, even given the remote possibility that you're correct, I don't think anyone here cares.

Teasdale is a year younger than Lee. He has more time to develop than SL. What is your point?

I agree It'll all work out. Clark and Gman worked out ok.

You PA fans can wish and hope that there is a crazy log jam at 125 I tend to think that with this group coming in we will end up with great options at 125,133 and yes 141.

If we had Suriano as our only option at 125 For the next 4 year you would be declaring how we force our guys to cut too much and it takes the fun out of things.

How in the name of Gable are any of these people experts on the grown pattern and potential of Gavin Teasdale? They are coaches at other schools in the same conference so that makes them an expert on the growth potential of a 14 year old? Do you have any idea how weak of a point you have made here?

And what makes them more experts than Gavin Teasdale himself?

PS: I just talked to a guy who's once heard of Pennsylvania. He told me Teasdale is going to be a Chris Taylor clone. So all of these people are clearly wrong. As is some guy named Gavin Teasdale.

I live in western PA also and have followed Teasdale for 2 years. I believe he will be a 157 pounder by his 2nd year at Iowa. The best way to tell about his future weight is to look at his father and his father's growth pattern.

Fantastic!

He can go up against Mason Manville or Jason Nolf then! See, it's all good!

Why are you so butt hurt. Penn State has a line up of top 10 recruits. Maybe if other schools start getting line up like you guys it'll come down to coaching and development. Then that could potentially prove that Carl is the best coach ever or not.

FYI I know who Manville and Nolf are. IMO Manville won't last at Penn State because of his terrible attitude.

00 would have Kanapti Solomon, not sure about others.

William Penn told me that GT will possibly probably certainly for sure be a career 115/285!

I haven't looked yet, but I think GT is the same age as SL.

Can 21 and SS meet on the bridge?

Thom -- I'm also from Western PA. While 157 may be a stretch, I think Teasdale has a much higher probability of wrestling 149 his freshman year than he does 125.

21 Guns -- You need to give it up and find another cause to die for. This whole board is giving you a salute, and they are not firing rifles.

I can almost guarantee that there aren't many or ANY people in Ames that care about our future recruits. Heck, based on the last time I was in Hilton to watch a meet, they didn't seem to care about their own kids.

21: not giving you crap at all, just really our ISU friends to the west. :)

LMAO, I call BOTH Teasdale and Lee, "elite" wrestlers, one of which has a legit chance to become a 4 time champion, keeping in mind neither has wrestled a collegiate match, and I claim that Teasdale will have a hard time making 133 by his freshman year, and YOU claim Mason has a "bad attitude" haha.

And I'M the troll...whatever amigo.
