...and almost ALL of that water goes to irrigation for hay, not for produce to feed America.

If we switch over to lab-created meats, that market goes to shit...

ONE SINGLE extended family uses more than the Las Vegas metro area uses
For -- you guess it --- growing hay.

Farms use the most water? No way.

And people eat the stuff that eats hay.

Shitty post.

Congress must be getting involved. I’ve started to see ads in Colorado about how much carbon is trapped by almond trees.

You started off hot identifying the problem. But your conclusion to switch to dog meats is dog shit.

Just need to throw money at lawyers to do the dirty work to turn off grandfathered rights like AZ did recently. But, each time it will be appealed and drug through the courts so they need to be prepared for a long, drawn out fight.

Not
Nearly all the weed in CA is grown indoors. Not dumping water into open ditch irrigation to grow rice.
Not the illegal stuff apparently.

No; they just need to charge higher prices for the water those farms are using.

And prevent farmers from growing low-cost stuff and exporting it (like the Saudis). Farms still need some water priority for us to eat; they do not need that much priority for hay.

I think one poster referenced this but a lot of this hay is exported to Middle eastern countries to support their livestock because they can't grow the crops there. Crazy world!

It’s deserts all the way down.

Most camels are from Australia. Some countries embrace the desert.

They can’t. The big users have grandfathered water rights (some 100+ years old). So not only do the draw the most, they are paying pennies on the dollar for it.

The only way this gets solved is with some creative, patient, and well funded and well lubricated legal teams who can fight those old contracts and survive appeals.

Holy fvck is someone bringing up Greening the Earth again? You do know that's only till nutrient and water availability becomes limiting factors

Yeah, he's simply too stupid to understand this.
The rising temps will burn off the water and make crops suffer.

Not sure how many of you have been to the Imperial Valley, it’s one of the most poor places in the country. The good thing is that they can grow crops year round, and yes there is a ton of hay but it is going to feed livestock.

Except for that handful of families that use all the water.
They ain't poor by any stretch. And it's doubtful they "reinvest" much in their communities....
