WrestleStat Rankings 12/15/2015

Looks pretty good to me! The only thing i wonder is why Retherford is 5th at 149, it seems he's dominated everyone he's wrestled this year, with only one dec win 8-1 against Theobold of Rutgers, and I think Sorensen has one regular Dec win too against Collica like 7-1. But its interesting to see how rankings play out like these and Dual Impact Index, where they are devoid of human bias or subjectivity, just purely looking at the stats, and assigning numbers.

The difference between those two is Sorensen had a preseason ranking in the top 5, while Retherford had the default ranking since he didn't wrestle last year. He's got a harder hill to climb to get up in the rankings.

Ah, that makes sense, especially since i'm assuming the only results the system has to go off of for Retherford are from 141 his TrFr year, where he didn't exactly light up the scoreboard all the time, which i'm sure factors into things considering the note at the bottom of the rankings.
"NOTE: These rankings favor wrestlers that are more aggressive. These are your point getters! They also do not take into consideration whether a wrestler is redshirting or not. Click on the weight to view all wrestlers for that weight."

Yes, but only the current seasons match results are used to determine the rankings.

How do you rank Jerod Cortez of Penn State?
He is not elgible this year, not by choice... They can't pull him out of RS, he isn't taking one. He is sitting for transferring in conference.

Just wondering the thought process?

ginormous.head, I can't speak for andegre but I don't think "he" is ranking them per se. They are "ranked" by his computer program...taking the human element out of it? At least that's what I take away from it, especially reading his reasoning for Retherford being ranked where he is, plus since the redshirts are being ranked. Do most rankers rank the redshirts? I honestly can't recall as I don't look at too many rankings but I would guess they don't rank redshirts. Again, I could be wrong and I'm sure Andegre will be on and set us both straight.

Andegre is the human element. It's his program. The numbers are compiled based on levels of importance that he set.

All division 1 wrestlers, as long as they have a match result in the current season, will get a ranking. This was done to give fans an idea of where ALL wrestlers at a given weight stand in comparison. Pbs is correct, the only "human element" that is factored into these rankings is by the tweaks iced made to the algorithm that is being used. If you're not familiar, my rankings are derived by the Elo ranking system, used by Chess federations, online gaming sites, including yahoo, etc. I've personally modified it to work for wrestling (since there are so few matches/games in a season in comparison).

Your rankings are a welcome addition to the current landscape, andegre. Even when I intuitively disagree with something I know there's a computer-based rationale for the ranking, and it's always interesting to compare and contrast with human rankings. And that's only the rankings part of your site--I find the eligibility lineups extremely useful too!
