...any guesses on when, where and or if a free standing facility will happen? Thanks in advance.

Since GOLF has become the priority at Iowa this summer...I put the over/under somewhere behind expanding parking around the campus:confused:

It is silly Spooner. Is there even a wrestling project at this moment or wishful thinking?

I'm usually a half empty glass kind of guy on large scale projects from/for the university. Especially, when those projects don't have the word "football" in their title.

Then in May I read about 10 million dollars Iowa athletics is laying out for a new Finkbine clubhouse and an additional 10 million dollars for Field House renovations. That showed me where wrestling is at Iowa. Along w lack of support from Iowa towards HWC. Things take for granted I guess.

Maybe "when" will be 2020-2022 if...the tennis team doesn't need courts/stands/lighting by then

I agree with your point that the wrestling team is undervalued but both of those projects are independent of the athletic department.

I stand corrected on the Finkbine project. Paid for by "gifts" to the athletic department.

Not sure you understand what you're talking about. Iowa just invested in a major renovation of the wrestling facilities 6 years ago.

What makes you think the Fieldhouse is being renovated by the Iowa athletic department? The Fieldhouse hasn't been used regularly by Iowa athletics for about 35 years. That has nothing to do with the Iowa athletic department.

$20M projects don't get conceived and approved in a matter of months. Never have and never will. From the day the idea is hatched you can probably expect somewhere around 1-2 years before it gets in front of the BOR for approval. The Finkbine project was conceived long before the wrestling facility. And not only that, it isn't like the two would be mutually exclusive projects. People that want a fancy golf clubhouse and facility done to the clubhouse. People that want a fancy wrestling facility donate to the wrestling building.

Gifts to athletic dept will pay the entire cost. Didn't know golf was so popular these days.

It isn't. Donors wanted a new building for themselves, and they gifted directly to it. Unlike a wrestling facility, they can use this as it is Finkbine. There are dues at Finkbine.

I can't believe anyone would be surprised that big money donors would spend big money on a golf clubhouse.

All I know is that we have heavy hitters plus some ambitious dudes working it. It is not going to happen overnight, however, it will get done quicker due to the private funding going on. Iowa is a football, basketball, wrestling school...in that order. We'll be just fine. It hurts that at least on paper, our was redone fairly recently.
