Wyatt Henson

Lock Haven has been a place for PA guys to return and wrestle near home in the past. Chance Marstellar and Thomas Haines quickly come to mind and they are actually both from the same region (high school wrestling District) as Henson.

Henson may have wrestled a couple years in PA but I don't really see him as a PA guy.
Good point

Edit: it was three years of high school though. 9th, 11th and 12th. And I had his high school / region / district wrong.

I saw this but didn't say anything because it's really no big deal. But like Kolat, Henson went to high school in Greene County in the extreme southwest corner of PA. Marsteller and Haines were from the central part of the state near Harrisburg.

I saw Waynesburg and thought Waynesboro.

Lock Haven is part of the PA State System of Higher Education. It’s a state school like Clarion, Edinboro, Bloomsburg, and many others. (Penn State isn’t among them.)

High School
• Three-time individual state champion
• Won the Missouri state title as a sophomore in 2019, and Pennsylvania state titles as a junior and senior in 2020 and 2021
• Led team to states titles as a sophomore and senior
• Team placed runner-up his junior season

5th as a freshman in PA too, I believe.

Lock Haven is fine academically. It is a small school with less than 2,000 full-time students in a very small town so it's hard to get lost among the hustle. Some (many) people need a smaller environment to keep focused.
I did not say it is a bad school, only that athletes with academic problems frequently end up there. Kolat was not accepted at Iowa, then to PSU where he had academic problems, so off to Lock haven..

Kolat had discipline problems, not academic problems. I think one of the last straws was riding the luggage belt into the restricted zone at the Harrisburg airport. That made headlines.

I thought so too but when I looked it up before posting a somewhat similar response, I found this:

“Had he chosen to remain at Penn State, Fritz said Kolat would not have been eligible this year, and even if he got his grade point average up and his academic progress caught up, he would probably only have one year of eligibilty left.”

Good find, mcpat

As I stated previously, he had such a bad transcript that Iowa could not even get him admitted. How he got into PSU was the great question! Obviously he should not have been admitted there either. I just happened to be in the Iowa wrestling offices around the time when Kolat was visiting Iowa. Being from west PA, I had watched Kolat in HS and had a special interest in his going to Iowa.

The luggage belt story is still funny, though.

Well, when I say I stopped in Lock Haven to have lunch, and somebody says "I bet not" that's basically accusing me of lying. You're (correct usage of the word) wrong. Wow, your (correct usage of the word) reply with that was stupid.

thom67, we have never interacted, but I have been on this board since 1999. Nice to see you getting active again. You are knowledgeable, measured and respectful. Need you to weigh-in more.

I’m sure the I bet not was in agreement to the not many having t shirt comment. Not lunch who I think the poster was genuinely interested in where you ate lunch.

Came to the Iowa board to see what was new in Hawkeye land. Maybe some interesting transfer, recruiting or injury news. Nope, the biggest news here is if someone ate lunch on the Loch Haven campus or not.
I mean it’s a topic of conversation, right?

I know. The important debate is what style of pizza he coulda/shoulda eaten in Loch Haven, on campus or not. Jeez, stay focused folks.

Actually - "I bet not" would infer that no way in hell you'd want to eat there. I would never assume it was accusing you of lying. I think you overreacted just a bit here.
