Wisky is not that good. We’re just slow and unathletic with only about 4-5 players that deserve to be on a Big Ten scholarship, it’s that way every damn year.
Oh he’s not wrong at all. He just seems like a miserable person when it comes to U of I athletics
It is also kind of miserable never to have any ambition. Our head coach has had a 15 year run because he can consistent be about 10-10 in conference play and not do much in BTT or NCAA tourney.
Eh...let the 24 hour rule kick in. That was a miserable experience to watch that game so people are pissed off right now. Unless you know of some other posts from him along the same lines as this one.
The fact that this is the best you could come up with to answer the question "What about tonight's game was fun" is why I believe that this is Fran's last season at Iowa.

Gard has changed his philosophy over the past 2 seasons. They are a much different team from year's past
True, and what sticks is his old philosophy still competed for the top of the big ten.
I have become so apathetic to Iowa basketball that I didn’t even know there was a game tonight. I just happened to see there was a game thread on the forums page and clicked over to the basketball board. I’m kind of wishing I hadn’t now. Lol.
The program is absolute dog shit. It’s just not even worth investing any thought or time into anymore. At some point, I got tired of seeing the same stupid shit every year. And I don’t care how unpolitically correct this is I’m going to say it because it’s true: Fran recruits too many white guys with the exact same skill sets and the exact same limitations—no defense, no toughness, no rebounding, and no athleticism. Seriously, half these kids look like they should be in swing choir or the ****ing glee club, not a Big Ten men’s basketball squad. On top of that, the only black players Fran can get now are foreigners. Absolutely pathetic.

All 5 of their starters are averaging in double figures so they are scoring the ball at an unprecedented level for them.
They were actually playing faster than Iowa the last 30 minutes of this game...beating us down court.

I haven't watched in two years. Sounds like the attendance records may force Beth into a decision about keeping Fran.

How many teams in the country can score 85 and still get beat by 31? That may be the worst defensive "performance" I've ever seen.
Wisconsin won't score like that against any team the rest of the season.
Sometimes it's just not your night, the other team can't miss and you "run into a buzz saw" or whatever other tired phrase you want to use.
This is not merely that. We have a talent problem and an effort problem. Both are 100% the fault of the head coach.
Hard to tell about effort when the guys look lost. It was like Iowa had 4 players on the court.
Sometimes you run into a buzz saw, and other times you create a buzz saw. This was the latter - they gave so many good looks to Wisky that allowed them to get hot. Then they kept on giving open looks.
We are looking at a group of players that aren't good at defense and a coach (that recruited them) doesn't seem to care much.
I just looked at this seasons stats for Wisky and they are averaging 84/ppg. Defensively opponents are averaging 71. Wisky has jacked up 382 three pointers and are making them at a 35% clip (this% went up after last night).
Bottom line: Wisky seems to have changed their style, but I didn't look at stats for the entire Gard era.
Truthfully, I haven’t watched more than 10 minutes of an Iowa men’s basketball game in 3 years. Have been done since we couldn’t even get to a Sweet 16 with Garza and the Murray brothers. An even bigger crime was that we couldn’t do it the years we had Woodbury, Geselle, Jok, Uthoff, etc.
I truly thought we were in for a fun ride when Fran was hired. Now I’m just waiting for it to be over. Ready for a new coach, new energy, and less “great kid from a great suburban white family” type recruiting. Yeah, I said it.

I truly thought we would be a poor man's Notre Dame -- basketball at a football school with a lot of lip service paid to "high character" recruits and development, without anywhere close to the $, facilities or national following.
It has worked out pretty much the way I thought it would.
I used to watch every game and was energized in the first half of Frans years at Iowa. You can NEVER take away the work that he did to get us out of the basement.

I played Mario Kart with my kids last night, instead of watching the game. Very happy with that decision! If that tells you we're I'm at with the program these days.

I'll probably get excoriated for this, but when Wisky went on the 19-2 run, I quit watching and turned it to the Minny bowl game.
We've all seen this song and dance before. Iowa opponent gets red hot, no TO's to quell the run, and the entire game implodes.
Fran is a solid 0.500 B1G conference coach, which gets you on bubble most years and in NCAA tourney roughly 1/2 the time because B1G sends more than 1/2 its teams to NCAA tourney most years. He's been well paid for his service and he got to play his two boys big minutes. Nepotism and long contracts at Iowa are perks.
I have never agreed with the idea that turning around a program after Lickliter was something that is rare/worthy of a lifetime of good will.
After LIckliter, Fran inherited 2 players that became All-B1G---Gatens and Marble. That was not an empty roster.
Basketball teams are easy to turn around--only takes 5 guys. There are many examples of much faster turnarounds from greater depths than what Fran put up.
TJ Otzelberger at ISU took of a team in Worse shape than Lickliter mess, got it to Sweet16 in his 1st year and again his 3rd year. Fran has 28 years of head coaching, 14 at Iowa, and zero Sweet16s. At some point the evidence builds that maybe there is a systematic problem---like not playing defense/rebounding makes your teams DOA come NCAA tourney time?
Anyway, Wisconsin was just 1 loss and I can flush it. I wouldn't be surprised if this is another 10-10 type B1G team for Fran. Maybe they go 11-9 and make NCAA tourney. I'm not seeing a big difference between 9-11, 10-10, 11-9 records if you never have a chance to put together a special team that can make an NCAA tourney run and get the state of Iowa excited. It does seem that there are still optimists out there as I've read for past 4 years that this upcoming year could be the year.
