Okay you degenerates, I’ll likely regret doing this but I couldn’t go another full Iowa football season without this silly diversion so I will bring it to you whether you like it or not. All of us are a bit nervous for good reasons as to how our offense will perform this season so they are the focus of this week’s queries.

So here we go:

WEEK #1: ILLINOIS STATE @

1. We all know the offensive woes Iowa has experienced the last few seasons and scoring is at the top of the list. Will Iowa manage to score 23 points or more this week against the Redbirds?

2. TDs were rare last year for Iowa, managing only 22 of them for the entire season, less than 2 per game played. Does Iowa manage to score 3 TDs or more this week?

3. Offensive yardage was dismal last season as well, averaging an FBS worst for the season of 234.6 yards per game. Will Iowa’s offense find a way to put up at least 350 yards of offense Saturday?

4. Normally Iowa is a team with a reputation of winning the turnover margin against their opponents, but 2023 did not play out that way. Iowa finished the season with -7 takeaways against their opponents. Will Iowa win the turnover battle Saturday at +1 or greater?

5. There has been some positive buzz around our O-line recently and their ability to run block. Last season Iowa averaged 116 yards rushing per game. Will Iowa put up at least 160 yards against Illinois State?

6. Kamari Moulton surprised many of us as being designated as RB1 and the starter for this week’s game. Will Moulton be the leading rusher for the Hawks this week?

7. At Iowa, punting is winning. Unfortunately, Tory Taylor has moved on to the NFL and we debut a new Aussie punter this week, Rhys Dakin. Will Mr. Dakin manage to equal or exceed Tory’s 2023 punting average of 48.2 yards/punt in his Iowa debut?

8. Iowa’s receiving last year left a lot to be desired to put it mildly, averaging less than 13 catches a game. Will Iowa be able to tally at least 18 total receptions in tomorrow’s opener?

9. Iowa consistently fields a defense that is in the upper tier nationally and expectations are high again this season. Will Iowa be able to hold Illinois State to 12 points or less?

10. Jay Higgins was Iowa’s leading tackler last year tallying 171 total tackles by season’s end. Will Mr. Higgins record 11 or more tackles by game end?
