Yikes, looks like we are going to hit 50k cases today

And, on Fox today Trump again claimed that the virus would most likely just go away. Soon, very soon.
He also claimed a lot of coverage on the virus is overblown.
So, to sum up, going away soon, and a hoax. Got it.
No wonder he is tanking in the polls.

I was wondering the same. People keep talking about Florida and Texas but California seems to be escaping the ire.

It seems the CA Governor took/is taking it seriously while the FL and TX Governors were very caviler in their opening up and took an early "nothing to see here" approach. Particularly that DB gov in FL, lol, he is going to be taking a lot of heat in the next few weeks for how big of a dip shit he was and is regarding C19. Iowa gov belongs in that box as well, she is a freaking idiot.

What's California's story on this? I need to get caught back up. I thought they had done really well...

They started to open back up. You can’t open up until you have a vaccine. We should have kept the shelter in place lockdowns for all of 2020 at a minimum.

The bottom line is a serious lack of leadership from the WH.

When the virus response is based on how it affects the President's reelection chances... you know it won't end well.

I think Trump's inner circle realizes how badly they handled the early stages of this pandemic. Now it's "damage control" from them.

Once things went South... the States were on their own. I'd be willing to bet Republican Governors really would like to express their frustration publicly, but are afraid to do it.

This explosion in cases is frightening.

haha..... like I said. Democrat state so nothing to see here. Pure comedy.

Yeah you can't do that and act like there wouldn't be severe irreparable harm done to people that way too. I still don't understand why covid deaths are the only deaths that matter anymore. We as a society accept a certain number of deaths from every cause every day. Deaths from car accidents. Deaths from cancer. Deaths from work place accidents. Deaths from suicide and drug overdose. And so on and so forth.

Forcing people to shelter in place for months on end maybe a year or more is laughable. Fear doesn't stop death. It stops life.

This virus stops life, especially if we just let it run wild. I don’t understand why people don’t get this. We need strict lockdowns for an extended (6 months+) period of time to control the virus.

Can someone confirm that if you for say have cancer. Go to hospital and die. They test you and determine you have Covid-19 are you considered a cancer death, Covid-19, or both?

I mean it all depends on why they are going and why they died. If you went to hospital because you were dying of pneumonia like symptoms / fever it would seem like C-19. But if patient was going because endgame for advanced cancer which had metastasized everywhere and was killing the person, it would be the cancer. A lot of time by that advanced stage of cancer people don’t go to the hospital and rather die at home or in hospice.

Similar to each flu season, the true death toll won’t ever be known and will come years later from estimates of how out of range the deaths got this year. As posted here yesterday, the data suggests the current 130k number is off by 30% and we are closer to 160-180K dead most likely due to this pandemic. For perspective that is roughly the same number of TOTAL people who died 2010-2017 from the flu. In March through June, with the country taking extraordinary steps to stop its spread.

And yet many still want to say it is an overreaction, just the flu, and fear porn.

What a ridiculous comment. Fear of something that can kill you can absolutely stop death.

Are you scared of cancer? It doesn't make you any less likely to get it. Do you drive a vehicle regularly? Again, I'm not suggesting throwing caution to the wind with regards to covid but it's ludicrous to think civilization should be locked inside until (MAYBE) it's cured.

You couldn’t be more wrong. It’s been stated over and over: dying with covid means you died OF covid.

Deaths are WAYY over attributed to this: Redfield, Fauci stated it’s a slightly stepped up flu. Trust the experts.

Again. A LOT of things stop life. Guns for example. Do deaths by gun violence not matter? Those daily deaths are acceptable? Do you know how many people die daily around the world from simple things like lack of food and clean water? It's sad. Any death is. But so is the thought of being forced to live in your house. Absolutely destroying people's lives from job loss and economic ruin. Are you seriously suggesting that people can withstand that?

If you die of cancer symptoms, it's cancer.
If you die of Covid symptoms, it's Covid.

Really pretty basic medicine-stuff here. And Covid impacts multiple organ systems in the body, which is why it's so effective at killing people who get severe cases.

TRUE. 3/26/20, NEJM, ‘...more akin to influenza pandemic than SARS or MERS’

Bullshit. IL dept of health, Birx, Jensen, Reynolds, et al have all stated the same thing: Covid is THE sole qualifier in classifying deaths.

Stop spreading lies.

Baloney. You have no clue what you're talking about. The medical professionals classify the deaths per their best judgement. Period.

in what regard? More context for that quote needed. That certainly doesn’t bolster your claim it’s a “slightly stepped up flu.” How are you quantifying “slightly stepped up?”

I take your unresponsiveness as a “pass” to my prior questions regarding your educational/professional background.

Sure you can. At least with what we know now, social distancing and mandatory mask use would be pretty effective.

For essential jobs and grocery stores and things like that, yes, no bars, no indoor dining or gyms should be open for the rest of the year.

You’re lying. Or misinformed. Or an insufferable combination of the two.

I gave the necessary info: google it yourself.

Are you hiring? If not why should I submit my qualifications and/or credentials? Have you seen what passes for intellect in today’s world? :D

so you determine what’s necessary? Context is almost always necessary, and you provided none. I don’t find you to be an authority on the matter, so pardon me if I consider your word to be worthless. Your commentary doesn’t even hold up to the smallest amount of introspection (and you run from it).

I provided a date, the name of the publisher and the two main actors. If you’re unable to find the article using your favorite search engine then I’m afraid there’s not much hope for you.

Running from introspection?:p:p:p

And, despite the rise in cases... the fatality rate is continuing to decline. Sorry to being positive vibes to a negative thread!
I am to the point where I no longer care about cases. As long as death rates stay down and hospitals don't get overrun, so be it.

If you are around 25-30 years to retirement I suggest buying medical ETF/Mutual Funds now and hold until disbursement time. When all these youngsters get older and the long term side effects of COVID-19 rear up its going to be a goldmine for med companies.

Serious question, what happens if no vaccine is developed?

Nope. That's what the medical professionals are being told to do, and are doing.

QAnon may say otherwise for you, but that's not really reliable sourcing, is it?
Don’t know what a qanon is - though coming from you it’s got to be covid related and killing LOTS of children - but on 4/7/20 Birx explicitly stated how deaths were to be classified.

Stop lying.

Birx made a generalization, and is not directing how deaths are classified.
No one has altered the classification systems.

We need to adjust to a very different new normal then. No large social gatherings, virtual learning, people will need to socialize virtually, the economy will be much different as many of the service jobs will never come back.

I'm simply repeating for you the information CDC has on its website.

A 1.6% death rate for 0-4 year olds, exactly as has been on their site for almost 2 weeks now, is a CFR of about 5%. CDC removed the raw numbers off their bar graphs last week, when you could compute the CFR to better than ±0.5%. Now that they have purged the raw numbers, the error bars on the estimate are ±0.5%.

If they added one significant figure to their percentages, you could compute actual death numbers and actual CFR more accurately. I've pointed out numerous times that this data has been routinely updated, and not corrected, so it no longer looks like "an error".

So no sports, no school, no graduation parties, no weddings. Yeah that’s not going to happen.

I’m all for masks and such and people who call it a hoax are douches. But people and business aren’t going to let the government just strip away everything for that amount of time.

Edit to add: based on your drive by comments in these threads, I also think you could just be trolling. No one seriously thinks no sports or anything for the rest of eternity is a good idea.
