i don't remember these two competing much in freestyle. Looking forward to seeing how they far. Glynn, Shaw, Moody, Gunther, Happel, Brownlee, Malcom, and Murphy also competing.
If he and Matt Brown square off will be a good indicator of where he stands. It might even impress Mike.Don't see either of them registered yet. I'd have to imagine Marinelli at 74kg. Likely Young at that weight too.

Isn't Matt Brown like 25 years old?
I would guess he was close to 25 when he graduated. He did the two year mission trip then redshirted. If Marinelli was anywhere close to him I would be thrilled.
Correct. Brown is SR level. But won't Marinelli be wrestling in the junior tournament?

From cyclones.com -I bet he's closer to 30 than 25.
Lol, so in 7 months he'll be closer to 30 than 25. Spooner was waaaay off. From cyclones.com -

Wasnt he also a good sized 174. A few years out of college would make him fill out more I would guess. I certainly keep filling out every few years.Correct. Brown is SR level.
Brown was a HUGE 174. His size, IMO, was the main reason Evans struggled so much with him. Just too much girth and power.Wasnt he also a good sized 174. A few years out of college would make him fill out more I would guess. I certainly keep filling out every few years.
For some reason, I thought Evans vs Storley was pretty even (going by memory). Looking it up [on WrestleStat] for his last 2 seasons, he was undefeated against him! Also, all 5 of those matches went to OTBrown was a HUGE 174. His size, IMO, was the main reason Evans struggled so much with him. Just too much girth and power.
On the other hand, Storley was fantastic but more of a finesse 174, and Evans handled him on a pretty regular basis.
It must not have been fun to be pummeled by Brown as it's like a really brawny, fresh-faced Eagle Scout with a smile on his face absolutely beating you to a pulp. Like getting destroyed by a muscular Richie Cunningham.I will say this about Brown, he had the best kick-out I'm ever seen.
I don't believe Marinelli ever competed in any of the big National Freestyle events while in high school. I don't know why, but for some reason, his high school program, St. Paris Graham, rarely has wrestlers competing at Fargo or other big freestyle events (with some exceptions such as David Taylor and Issac Jordan). For this reason, and this reason only I would temper your expectations for Marinelli in this event. He is a whale of a talent and I think he will have a tremendous amount of success in Folkstyle as early as next season, but he might struggle with some of the nuance of Freestlye early on and have a slight adjustment period. He will adjust though and excel at Freestyle eventually too, it just may not be right away.

Wow -- that is surprising. I could have sworn Storley had stolen one along the way. Always nailbiters, but Mike just had his number. Funny how some relatively even match-ups go that way sometimes. For some reason, I thought Evans vs Storley was pretty even (going by memory). Toward the end of the rivalry it was hard to watch as neither seemed to try to score points.Wow -- that is surprising. I could have sworn Storley had stolen one along the way. Always nailbiters, but Mike just had his number. Funny how some relatively even match-ups go that way sometimes.
Thanks for the info! Shouldn't be surprised, coming from the holder of all info ever to exist in the sport.![]()
