If you have followed my posts over the last week I was pretty specific about how I thought BF would game plan this and the same with PP. I was spot on, but the key is that the team actually EXECUTED the game plan (on defense they blew coverage twice early...miscommunication apparently, but they straightened it out quickly). I know most of you don't understand this whole EXECUTION thing so I won't waste my breath. When the kids play well and EXECUTE the coaches look so much better, don't they.

O-line had a good week of practice and the 2 FR tackles are gaining every day (Kirk's words, not mine). It allowed them to execute in the passing game and get better push in the run game. O$U vaunted d-line didn't play like their hair was on fire like they did in 2nd half against PSU. It's hard to bring out that kind of intensity 2 weeks in a row, on the road, against an unranked opponent, just a week before a more important game against MSU (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

This is why we play the games, Vegas be damned!

Well, if you're going to thank anybody, you should thank me. About 15 minutes before kickoff, I went to the liquor store and bought a bottle of ceremonial, sacramental scotch and took my first drink at kickoff. It was a healthy drink. Nothing more need be said about the effect of that drink but I'll say it. Hooker pick 6 on tOSU's first play from scrimmage. Emboldened, I continued to drink heavily throughout the 1st half and with a certain amount of success if I do say so myself.

I slacked off a bit at halftime and made a few phone calls to associates which distracted me such that I wasn't really on my game during the 3rd quarter where Iowa only scored once. I apologize for any anxiety that may have caused.

I picked up the pace at about 5:32 in the 3rd and by the time the 4th quarter started, I was hitting it hard. And it paid off. Getting Iowa from 48 points to 55 took a yeoman effort for which I will pay heavily tomorrow but it was worth it. I really wanted that 55 and didn't really mind giving up a token tOSU score in the process. Because it is, after all, a process. There inevitably has to be a little give with the take and I accept that. 55-17 would have been sweet but 55-24 ain't too bad.

I'll take OP at his word 'coz thanks to his excellent strategy that BFandCo implemented today, i received texts at half-time (followed by a phone call after the game) from a buddy long forgotten. It turns out he was watching this game with his 10 year old when a overhead shot of Kinnick made him remember my tremendous magnanimity from ages ago. I'd apparently taken him along to Kinnick when he visited me from out-of-state in IC then.

I'd like to thank this guy ^ way more than the original poster.

Intensity a tough one, I agree. Why did they not stack box 8 men inside had been blueprint with other teams? Still o-line steped up.huge. daniels looked healthy, tackles best game, big big step forward.Overall very PROUD of all HAWK players. Hawks have some big time players.Again may I? HAWK.players tough.

Great post but I call bs. Written too well and clean after a bottle of scotch. I'm sure your wife made you drink prune juice for extra fiber for the day!

This is top shelf, sir. Post like this more often.

Yes, execution is king and the players did that to a T, BUT...

You are discounting that this was a TOTALLY different offensive game plan than we’ve seen all year. The biggest difference being, they basically abandoned the zone run blocking scheme yesterday. Never thought I’d see the day but it was exactly what his offense needed.

You can game plan and practice all you want but truth be told it was the EXECUTION of my superstitions throughout the week and during the game that carried the day. No thanks required.

I'll tell you exactly why. They spent all week focusing on MSU, and thought they could come out and play their base O and D against Iowa and just out talent us.

Harder work and better prep beats superior talent!

If you think Ohio St didn’t prepare you’re crazy. How many times has Iowa beat a top 10 team at home? Come on give these Hawks some credit. Our coaches and team killed it yesterday.

I’ve been saying this over and over again but these Hawks were very unpredictable and Ohio St didn’t have a clue when we were passing or throwing. It’s hard to defend an unpredictable play caller. Please keep this up Brian!!

I could have predicted this thread. Happens after every upset. At least one member of the Sunshine Club (you know the type, they predict the Hawks to win every game) jumps on to proclaim how awesome and knowledgeable they are. Yet when the Hawks lose, you don’t see them jumping on to admit they aren’t really as smart as they pretend to be.

O.P. is a perfect example. Biggest blowhard on this board.

Just try to listen and learn. It's an amazing concept.

I am not discounting it. I predicted BF would run way more power ( FB lead) and his gap scheme. He's not stupid. I said he would run mostly 2 TE with the FB and run a lot of crossing routes, which he did early and often. I predicted he would sneak Kulick out of the backfield if he was healthy, etc. Every game plan is totally different, just because the untrained eye doesn't notice it doesn't mean it's the 'same old thing', lol. When a team executes the GP, it's a brilliant (different) plan, when they don't, it's a horrible plan and the same old thing according to fan site experts. That is almost never based in reality. These professionals, who believe it or not, actually know what they are doing, unlike yahoos on fan sites who think because they were a undersized, backup left guard in junior high school and play Madden, they somehow are experts on college football. These folks stay up all night breaking down and watching dozens of hours of film and script plays based on their years and years of training and knowledge. When it is executed, they are brilliant and it was 'different', lol. When it doesn't work because of lack of execution (dropped balls, overthrown passes, turnovers, missed blocks, wrong line calls, etc.etc.etc.) or because the defense is doing something they didn't see or anticipate the coaches are all of a sudden 'bad' coaches and 'predictable', etc. Amazes me that typical fans can't seem to grasp this.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to dethrone you or steal your limelight. You have earned your place at the top of Hawkeye Report. I was just having fun stirring up the negative Nellie's who are on here complaining about the past and the could'ves and should'ves instead of just enjoying a huge victory and giving credit where it is due. They must be a blast to be around.

I won't be to you. You don't know as much as you think you do.
Well, who are you going to listen to? It is obvious that you pretty much know absolutely nothing, so how would you be able to discern the accuracy of my knowledge? Your pride will just keep you ignorant and whining. Sad. And just so you know, I couldn't care less if you listen to me, read my posts, or learn anything.

1. Break tendencies.
2. Win the turnover battle.
3. Win field position.
4. Don't give up any big plays.
5. Few...or better yet...zero penalties.
6. Make 1-2 big plays: long bomb, 50+ yard run, kick return for TD, etc.
7. Play smart football....no mental errors.
8. Execution.

Iowa will need to play pretty much a perfect game, but victory is certainly not impossible.

Looks like I pretty much nailed it.

You're welcome.

I just rewatched the first quarter and most of the second quarter. There was more zone blocking than I noticed the first time. But let me put it this way... the successful runs were straight ahead blocking. But the number of zone runs vs straight assignment blocking so far was about 50/50

If you remember more than one quarter of a Hawkeye game ever again I, and Hawkeye nation will be disappointed. The success of this team is in your hands. Drink up.

Our problems on offense prior to last night were much deeper than just "execution." Execution was part of our problem, but playcalling was equally to blame (ie running into 8 man box, not using Wadley in space and not enough tightend involvement). Last night execution was better and playcalling was inspired. We'll see if they keep it going next week or revert backward into their shell. I'm hoping for the first option.

What exactly did the op accomplish? Did his Duluth Longtail T-shirt arrive and fix his plumber’s butt?

I started the game with a stoic disposition, and low and behold pick f'in 6.

I decided to go with it, and no matter what the Hawks did the rest of the game, I looked like Tom Landry watching paint dry.

Y'all are welcome

This board is obviously below you so why not find a different one. You and Nitewing should become pen pals.
