Interesting, and a bit shocking (to me), piece from the BBC this morning. Nearly 5% of deaths in Canada are associated with legalized euthanasia, with the highest numbers among the Quebecois. Worse yet, they are considering expanding the program to those with mental illness. (Who gets to give that consent?)

The article does have its other semi-hilarious points, such as when they say that 96% of cases involved persons for whom natural death was foreseeable. Or when they note that the 'mental illness' expansion is getting pushback from provincial NHS administrators due to bandwidth concerns that the expansion might lead to (wait for it) access delays.

When I was young and would go to the sale barn with family, I didn't understand why the bulls were being tested by guys in the Navy. Turns out that Sea-man tested had a different meaning.

If you read the title of the thread out loud... it sounds like murdering Canadians. Which of course we wouldn't do to our fellow citizens in the 51'st state.

For the most part I am on the side of letting people die who want to. Its not pleasant feeling that way but in most cases I believe wrongful suicides are rare.
I'm ok with that principle; that's what hospice is. I'm less ok with getting medical professionals entangled in it. And less than that when the medical professionals are government employees. And not at all when it comes to mental illness.

Sorry to ask, but do know that you can edit the title of a thread?
