YouTube TV Rate Going Up $15.

I was going to switch to them this fall. Going to need to crunch the numbers now.

I was considering switching this fall from Xfinity. My bill is $125 a month before taxes and fees. I get up to 600 down and 15 up along with 200 channels including Showtime. If I was to dump cable my internet bill would jump to $90 before fees.

With this price increase it is cheaper for me to keep Xfinity with more channels vs YouTube TV.

It’s been interesting to see the mass exodus from cable packages for “cord cutters.” Only to see these once incredibly affordable options raise their prices and even spin off into each production company’s own streaming service. Ultimately, we should end up where we started with virtually the same TV packages.

Did people really not see this coming? Get people to switch over for a much lower rate and slowly raise the price. I switched to YouTube TV when sports ended. We literally watch 3 channels, so it made sense. I'll be going back to Direct TV when football starts back up.

Seems to me the cost of cable isn't so bad when you add up all these other streaming services you have to get to duplicate the product.

Yeah, ten years ago I was confident cable was going away. But between the complications of getting local network channels (who could haves guess that our free TV would be a major problem?) and the cost and complications of getting everything you need had made the cost/convenience factor of a cable/internet bundle still very desirable.

Yes but wouldn't you have the other streaming services anyway? YTTV is a replacement for cable/directv, not netflix, prime, etc.

Absolute BS. I was on the original plan at $35 which was a steal. When I got bumped to the current $49.99, I was bummed but it's still the best service for that price. Now at $64.99, I'm probably out. If they cancel CFB, I'm cancelling that day.

I don't understand why they don't tier services like directv does. The only one of those channels I might watch is comedy central. I will stick with it anyway as it will still be 160/mo cheaper than what we were paying directv.

I suspended YTV when sports ended. It was the only reason I had it.
I’ll restart it in the fall if there are sports. The DVR was nice.

It is still WAY cheaper than directv, when you add in all of their bullshit fees.

So how many can watch YouTube tv at one time? I thought it was two but the release made it sound like 3. I plan on switching soon.

Here a different way to look at it, YTV now has pretty much all cable tv channels now that they are adding Viacom channels. To get those channels currently I am paying $50 for YTV and $20 for Philo to get the Viacom stations. Now I will drop Philo and pay the $15 extra as I will be saving $5/month now.

Hulu doesn’t offer all of those channels, at least. It yet. I really love YTV and recommend it, I used to use PS Vue until they went away and really like it too.

It has always been 3. You get 6 devices that can be linked to your account buy only 3 can be streaming at the same time. Works out well for our family of 4.

I'll definitely have to look into the comparison again. I forget what youtube tv had but hulu didn't that was the big selling point for me.

My choice to go to YouTube was AMC and that was at the beginning of this season’s Better Call Saul. Another plus for YT is that I believe they allow for 3 TVs streaming at once compared to 2 w/ Hulu. Not 100% on that info, but I’m quickly checking out Hulu’s pros/cons too.

Another option that looks decent is Fubo Tv. They have a decent channel package. Unfortunately, their cloud/DVR looks atrocious.

Those channels suck! How about El Rey, NHL Network, NFL Network and Pac 12 Network?
NHL Network is the one keeping me from dropping cable and making the switch. Or should I say "was". Not sure about sports now.

Why are these services not a la cart? I don't watch most of these channels. That was the point of cutting the cord. To save money and get away from packaged TV channels.

This pisses me off. I was in PSVue and they had a good service at a good price over what I was paying for directv. Then the price increases kicked in and then they folded. Migrated to YouTube TV and same thing is happening. I doubt they go away, but there is now less cut the cord services.

I was paying $90 after calling to complain about price and threatening to cut the cord. I liked Direct way better, so for me the $26 is worth it. That and having Sunday Ticket.

I never switched. Just kept Direct. Live sports are the one thing I watch live and Direct is the best. I’ll pay the extra $$

Your actual bill was only 90? That isn't too bad. We had like 4 dvrs, whole home dvr, and a couple of other receivers. The fees were just as much as the actual service.

I think you get up to 6 individualized accounts for personalized DVR and channel lineups, but aren't limited to 6 devices. Between my three kids and I, we have way more than 6 devices that are set up to play YouTubeTV.

Seems to me that maybe Youtube TV isn't understanding what their core demographic is, people who want a smaller channel package at an affordable price but still retaining the more popular things like ESPN, etc...

I don't care for any of the channels they're adding and certainly don't care about them for 15 dollars more a month. I'm not currently subscribed but was going to start my membership back again once sports started back again (Which is pretty much the only thing I used it for). If they're jumping up to 65 dollars then I'll have to re-evaluate that. It might not be worth it anymore.

This sucks. I was on the original plan too. The only new station that I remotely care about is Paramount Network. Hopefully finally get to watch Yellowstone.

YouTube TV is a bit more user-friendly to me than Hulu TV is, and there were a couple of channels it had that Hulu didn't that I wanted. The only channel still missing for me is Hallmark Mysteries - I'm a sucker for those. I was able to add a subscription to FRNDLYTV for that though.

PS Vue is a classic case of a service that should have been better. It had the best channel selection, though I disliked the home page/guide pages.

To me the ideal model would be for a service to have packages at like $40/$50/$60. At each price you can select x number of channels from specific buckets. For example, you could select x number of sports channels, x number of move channels (AMC, TCM, etc), x number of family channels, and so on. So you'd still have to get some of the HGTV-type channels and such.

I switched to YTTV last November and I really like the service and the interface. Even with a $15 increase monthly it's still significantly cheaper than my DirectTV was and I have more sports channels than I did before (not that there's anything on them worth watching currently!)

Well we only had two boxes and 1 with DVR, so thats probably where we saved a lot. We only watch TV in the living room. Bedroom is usually Netflix or PornHub ;), but they threw that box in with a deal a couple years ago.
