While stumping for Donald J. Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign, Elon Musk said he could cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. After Mr. Trump took office and placed Mr. Musk in charge of the budget-slashing so-called Department of Government Efficiency, Mr. Musk lowered that projection by half, to $1 trillion in the upcoming fiscal year. In a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Mr. Musk appeared to set his group’s goal lower still.

My guess is they find $250 billion in the end. A goood start at savings which we desperately need, but their approach is a clusterf*ck and will ruin the chances of us finding fiscal savings once Congress turns blue.

Had they been just a bit more deliberate on focus, a lot more thoughtful on timing and a shit ton less arrogant/bragging than Musk would be a hero and 80% of America would be behind them.

Musk was never the right person for this job.

I suppose 10% is success to some? I hold my standards a little higher. I'm glad he failed. Hell, start with the defense budget and he would have found $250 billion in the first hour

When you factor in the lost revenue from the cuts at the IRS and impending deferred resignations as anybody not within striking distance of retirement runs to the private sector, he's cost the country to the tune of hundreds of billions.

So, this dumbass has spent a couple hundred million in campaign donations so that he can 1) irreparably ruin his reputation and 2) cost the country a few hundred billion.

The owning of the libs is vital.

Agree 100%, although the goal was ludicrous as I said when he claimed he could fine $2T without hitting entitlements.

It played well with MAGA which was probably the whole point.

Y'know he/the administration could have accomplished everything they wanted - cut headcount, automate systems, reduce inefficient processes, etc. had they gone about it the other way - i.e. built the new systems, automated what can be automated, allow this to happen all the while attrition cuts the workforce - and nobody would have put up a fight.

Build new systems, put in a hiring freeze, and let attrition run its course - and bam, you're the hero. Instead, you're the villain as the new systems fail, you fire 10s of thousands so that existing processes don't function, and you incentivize more to leave. AI tells me that attrition is between 100k-150k annually. You could have cut 500k over 4 years and implemented new technology. Instead, you broke it and it costs more money now.

Hahaha the left slobbering on themselves to pivot from "doge is bad" to "doge should do more and is bad bc they don't" is peak dem. ****ing mouth breathers.
