So we went to Kobe on Friday for my son's birthday and I scored a little container of their yum yum sauce.

Over the weekend I experimented with trying to recreate this wonderful condiment, and I think I came pretty damn close.

1 cup of mayo
1/4 cup of water
1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
1 tablespoon of melted butter
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon of paprika
Slowly added salt until it tasted right

Mix it all up and put it in the fridge.

I bet Kobe uses Japanese mayo... that's the only thing that might explain the slight difference.

Minus the tomato paste you have a good sauce for those of us who can’t handle our fructose anymore.

Bought this last week. It immediately went in the trash. Was absolutely disgusting and nothing like what I've had at a Japanese restaurant.

Usually if there is sweetness in something Japanese it's due to plum sauce. Might be the difference.
