Thought the discussion was interesting. Several of their posters don't feel confident about Wiltjer being able to contain White. Different options are discussed. A couple of posters think that their backup center Sabonis can guard him.

I don't think we have any similar question marks. Pangos, Bell, Wesley, Wiltjer and Karnowski are all really good players that are each capable of putting 20+ on us, but assuming we play man-to-man, it's pretty obvious who we're going to guard them with.

If Wiltjer does guard White, that would give White a good chance to get him into foul trouble. Of course, Wiltjer might do the same to White -- White hasn't had to guard a 4 with anywhere close to Wiltjer's skill all year. (Whitey excluded, it was a very weak year for the power forward position in the Big Ten.)

Little do they know is that we almost beat Syracuse and they're the best in the country at playing zone defense.

Don't forget what happened when we played OSU the first time in a 2-3 zone. Ran them off the court.

If the Zags play zone this could quickly turn into an ally-oop and dunk fest.

And looked very good vs NW the second time vs zone. However, also looked bad at times vs zone. If Iowa moves the ball well and takes the open shot then they'll stay in the game. They can't take quick shots in the half court or pass up open shots.

Wrong question. White vs. Wiltjer is basially a wash.

Right question: who will guard Uthoff. He is primed for a big game IMO.

I dunno.

Wiltjer's only defense is out-scoring the other guy.

We say his 'defense' was phenomenal when he scores 25 and his guy scores 15.

No way Wiltjer can contain White, only potentially outscore him, which he can do. When Wiltjer is hot, good night. When Wiltjer is bodied up, could be a long night.

White is a way way better defender. He will get Sabonis best shot too. If you haven't found out by now, GU Fans favorite player, not named Pangos, is Sabonis. He just oozes NBA talent and when he is fired up, watch out. Won't turn 19 til this Summer! I think White will see multiple defenders, including oft-used Angel Nunez.

Nunez only logs 5 or 6 mpg, yet is a solid defender. A louisville transfer who is 6'9" with a 7'4" wingspan. Not the smartest player around, yet was once a Top-75, 4* recruit for Coach Pitino.

Uthoff is the key. White will get his, yet Gonzaga will still score. We are flat out better than Davidson. Our tallest SF is 6'4". He can post up all game. I think we will have trouble stopping him.

Could also have a big game.

I agree that that's an important question. Like most of the teams we play, Gonzaga doesn't have a player well-suited to guard Uthoff. I'd say that we need big games out of both Uthoff and White to win.
