Zags vs Baylor

Did Baylor have players out when they lost to Kansas and Oklahoma State? I just can't imagine how this team got beat this season.

Baylor’s season was derailed for 3 weeks by COVID-19 issues. When they came back, it took a while for them to knock the rust off.

Obviously there wasn’t much rust in their game tonight.

The best team won by a wide margin. Zags were never in it. Totally outclassed.
Zags never had to play team higher than #5 seed, and the game vs #11 team “drained them” ( as per talking heads) to the pooint where they couldn’t play 2 tough games in a row..... bah-humbug

They had a long layoff due to covid -- which may have helped them in the long run -- and it took them some time to get back in the groove. A good example is their first game after that layoff, which was ISU at Waco. ISU led by as many as 18 in the first half, and Baylor never led until less than 5 minutes remained in the game. And ISU wasn't very good.

Not and not even close. I'll take the Hoosier of May, Buckner and Benson. Undefeated against a full season slate of better teams then Gonzaga played over the course of the season....
And the Hoosier team the previous season may have been even better until May breaks his forearm.

That was a hellacious two-year run for The General.

The next teams with Woodson, Tolbert, Turner and later on, Isaiah Thomas, weren't slouches, either.

I'd love for JoeT to emulate D Mitchell's style of play. He has the quickness and ball handling capability if he can stay on his feet. Joe probably will never have the shot Mitchell has though, but I think Joe could excel with the midrange jumper.

Gonzage looked fresh going into the tourney while most of the other teams looked like they had been in as long season. The answer to how Gonzaga would have done in a major 5 conference was displayed last night. Gonzaga may have not even been a 1 seed had they had to go through the battles of a real conference. They also had little experience in how to deal with getting your mouth punched in a game.

Yeah, Joe's midrange jumper is surprisingly good for a guy that is not up to our recent standards of 3pt shooting. He could get that dribble drive and pull up at the top of the key shot almost every possession, if he could stay on his feet like you said. He needs to get to the point where the game slows down for him and he can control his body.

Baylor’s perimeter defense is making a huge impact as many thought it would (making shots, dominating the boards, and winning the turnover battle helps as well), but this isn’t the same Gonzaga team we’ve watched all year either. Feels like a letdown after the UCLA game
A quality athletic pressure defense tends to make a great team look- meh.

They definitely looked out of sorts last night. We can talk about scheduling and not being tested. But a major part of it was that Baylor was locked in on both sides of the floor from the very start of the game while the Zags were trying to still get their feet under them. Before they knew it they were down double digits and never recovered. You'd be hard pressed to find a team in the last 20 years that would have beaten Baylor last night with the way they were playing D, rebounding, and shooting. Just an absolute buzzsaw that played most of the game to perfection.

No, they're a great shooting team that went through a shooting slump. They had their hands full with Villanova too because they couldn't hit a 3.

KU and Osu both match up better defensively too and they didn't switch their bigs onto guards every time like the zags did.

Timme was such a liability for the way Gonzaga was attempting to defend.

Doing an automatic switch was a terrible idea against Baylor.

Given the headband and moustache I doubt that anything could embarrass these two...
Both are complete douchebags. Especially Timme, and both were completely embarrassed and outclassed last night.

They had a long layoff due to covid, and were rusty when they came back. Otherwise neither of those teams would have beaten them.
