Yes and China is really just getting started as their middle class continues to grow. USA's total emissions have shrunk back to levels they were 25-30 years ago. China's is double what they were then.

They have shrunk slightly over the peaks of the last couple decades, but it's disingenuous to make this sound like this was by a significant amount.

They've been relatively flat, with much of that due to coal plants being phased out and replaced by lower-emissions natural gas.

There are ways to make that sound good or bad. But it seems like we've been fighting this battle for 3 decades, and all we've managed to do is tread water. And treading water has meant more storms, fires, flood, and the rest.
