Anyone else hear Colin Cowherd repeatedly ripping Iowa on national show?

Sorry if this is too negative for the kool aid drinkers, but I figured somebody would have at least mentioned it in regards to the very relavent news story it was connected to. Singling us out to be the example of tired, slow big 10 football (outside OSU) is nothing new, but he usually doesn't do it twice in the same show.

He was talking about what he thinks is a horrible idea (totally agree) that the Big Ten and pac 12 have come up with to not let true freshmen play in fb and mens bb. Was ridiculing the idea of punishing players who are ready to play and of course he brings us up. Says IOWA coach (always sounds snarky saying iowa) is all for it because we need two years to develop all our players anyway. He goes on later in the show to bring up the schoosl that aren't complaining about the current situation now, then says Iowa is all for it because no one wants to go here anyway. Doesn't mention Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska or Wisconsin.....Iowa.

Further proof of what our national perception has fallen to in the past five seasons. Building our brand is just another important part of HC job just like building our linebacking core or special teams, and we are failing in both. There is a such thing as bad publicity when it comes to recruiting, not that Kurt needs any help bringing in poor recruiting classes. His unwatchable style of play and Twitter ban do enough for that.

Kirk denying Jim Rome an interview in 2002 because he couldn't get off his moral high horse was the first red flag that this guy is totally and completely clueless on how to promote his team and university. Last I heard, prospects find the NFL very sexy, but let's keep pointing out how unsexy we are....

And this is the part where the apologists tell me that getting ridiculed on national radio doesn't matter.....riiiiiight!!!!

Being ridiculed on national radio does not matter. Thinking it is a big deal does matter. You really respectt Rome and Cowheard?

Giving too much credit to a radio show as a national show... It doesn't affect perception of the recruits (most don't listen to radio, let alone sports talk shows on the radio). Now if this were a topic on ESPN TV, it would reach a much broader audience and need credit. This will only affect the 30-70 year olds that spend their free listening to radio shows.

Coward is the MattFoley of radio. Just likes challenging everything and everyone to get people stirred up so they will listen to him. Too bad he is not as smart as MattFoley:)

I disagree, you actually make points that stir people up, and you are smarter than him.

never listened to Cowart in fact I could not even tell you what his station #'s are. the problem is there are more than the BT and B12 reams in favor of this. even Calipari of Kentucky is in favor of this,

and he lives by using 1 n done players.

I used to listen to Cowherds broadcast until I figured out all he does is repeat himself for three solid hours. Got tired of it. Got tired of him. He's a useless bore, whether it has anything to do with Iowa or not.

Moronic post. Who gives a damm about going on Jim Rome's imbecilic show. You would have to be totally bored out of your mind to watch his show. Kirk was wise to stay clear of that trainwreck.

If you're listening to sports talk-radio, then its Dan Patrick first, and everybody else second.

Also, Dan and Colin are feuding again. Who does everyone have in a fight between those two? I'm taking Dan because Colin would still be trying to tell everyone how he was right when the bell is rung.

Of all the damn things to find fault with KF, you cite this? LOL

See, part of that was correct, so all of it must be.

Cowhead is a joke. That dude is always pissed off at the world. I listen to ESPN radio while at work and he is always good for a few head shakes and laughs.

Posters who keep defending Iowa Football must be blind and stupid. It is falling into a crapper and about to hit a turd!

I like Cowherd as a person. I think he is really smart and generally takes reasonable stances on issues (by radio standards). What often gets lost when clips like this are pulled is how difficult it is to do a one man show for 3 hours... He's forced to do a "hot take" here and there and KFs name just happened to be on the press release.

I do Agree about Dan Patrick. He's the best.

Also like mike and mike, but only because I like listening to Greenberg explaining reality to Golic.

which calipari are you talking about exactly because this one doesnt sound like he is in favor of restriction.

At a news conference last week, the Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari - who has coached several players who played only one year in college and then departed to the N.B.A. - questioned the motivation behind freshman ineligibility.
"Is that the best decision for these kids?" he said. "Or are we worried about individual programs?"
He added: "Bill Gates leaves to go start a company, he's fine. That kid's a genius, and I'm happy for him. But this guy is ruining our college. What? I don't get it."

You like him as a 'person'? Do you know him 'personally'? Or do you mean you like his radio character or radio persona? There is a big difference.
Just curious.

Cowherd sucks. He creates fake arguments then argues against himself ad nauseum. Rush Limbaugh of sports radio in my opinion.

Agree with the above sentiments that the Dan Patrick show is pretty much the only nationally broadcasted sports radio worth listening to.

A person. I don't think there are any radio personas I enjoy. When I've seen Cowherd on other platform (Bill Simmons podcast jumps out but there are others) I've thought highly of his opinions even if I disagree

This would be his persona. To like someone as a person, you would have to know them personally and how they act at home, how they treat family and friends, how they act or think when they are not 'working', etc
Don't you think most public figures behave very differently out of the 'spotlight'?

Persona: : the way you behave, talk, etc., with other people that causes them to see you as a particular kind of person : the image or personality that a person presents to other people.

You can like him all you want, I was hoping you understood what it is you like.

I didn't need some idiot on espn to tell me Ferentz is killing this program. Maybe he will miss the boat ride home during his undeserved cruise.

Well said, well spoken.

Cowherd is a terrible radio host. I can't stand him. I don't listen to his show, just the advertisement bites are bad enough. I wish KGYM wouldn't play them and then I would never hear the guy.

I was hoping they would move Patrick to 9 AM, ditch Cowherd and have SVP. Its too bad Patrick is on 800 AM.

Patrick is fine but the problem is half his show is basically like any other morning talk show. Discussion mixed in with random jokes and laughter and side banter that loses the casual listener because you've spent 15 minutes wondering if this is gonna go anywhere........

Just sayin.

Cowherd show is by far the best folks. Yes, he is an asshat, but he is right more often than not.

DP show is like entertainment tonight for idiots, with OCCASIONALLY an actual informative interview.

Those don't happen much anymore though, need more time for Rich Eisen.

Well, how many idiots on ESPN do you need then? If they can't find enough there, I'm sure we can find plenty of idiots on here to reassure you that he is killing this program!!!

Colin is funny. His show moves along, he is very, very intelligent. Actually watching his show right now. Like his opinions on things other than sports.

Did not even realize that Dan Patrick still is on the air. Last few times I listened to him it was like watching grass grow. DP dry wit and personality are boring.

Mike and Mike is so commercialized, it's unbearable. There's more pimping of products during actual broadcast time than there is during their commercial "breaks." And FTR, Greenberg is a whiny little bitch.

Re: Anyone else hear Colin Cowherd repeatedly ripping Iowa on nationa

Cowherd did once say that Charlie Weis was just a bit smarter than most other coaches....

So take what he says with a grain of salt.

And the gap is Grand Canyon wide. Unless I've missed something, Cowherd doesn't do a major network NFL show, host a sports game show, and other things that would indicate he's more in demand than he is.
As has been pointed out before by others on here, CC does nothing more than rub folks the wrong way to spur ratings.

This thread is now 37 posts long and apparently the answer is "NO".

I've listened to Cowherd, Rome, Patrick, Mike & Mike, etc. I do it all day. That's what happens when you work in an office. My personal favorite is Jim Rome. Usually puts on a fresh show with a variety of topics and guests with a dose of comedy. He's gotten more stale as he's gotten older, show used to be more edgy but I attribute to him being more corporate now and having to protect his brand.

Anyway, what is getting lost here, for those of us who have listened to these shows for years, is that Cowherd used to have a lot of respect for the Iowa program. Used to point Iowa out as one of the good programs in the Big Ten. Used to say we were a tough program that would compete and win. Now he has no problem ripping on us because everything he is saying is true. It was true when he praised the Iowa program, and it's true now that he is ripping on it.

What's funnier is that some people actually think that 10-year-old quote makes a huge load of difference to recruits who were finger painting in 3rd grade at the time.

"Oh you're not sexy, well, hell I'm not coming here.

As to the OP, if reduced to a label, I'd rather go with Kool-Aid drinker than a moron who looks for deep meaning from a radio host. But hey, it did give him the chance to work in all that great stuff that no one's ever heard before.
