B1G softball starts today although opening weekend will have some alterations to the schedule for weather. Any predictions? Going into conference action B1G records are:

Wisconsin 22-3
Nebraska 20-6
Michigan 21-7
Iowa 19-8
OSU 18-8
Minn 17-10
NW 14-10
MSU 14-13
Indiana 15-14
Ilinois 10-12
Purdue 11-15
Penn State 7-16

Iowa will not play OSU, MSU and Indiana

Iowa is looking good so far with five wins over ranked teams and some other good wins as well. The Hawks only have one "bad" loss verses St. Johns.

Michigan's ace pitcher is back and healthy for conference time. They look to be the favorite. Wisconsin & Nebraska are playing well and NW has a better team than their record indicates. Minnesota has a great pitcher in Moulton. All could be at the top some where.

Hopefully Iowa can continue playing well. Starting off the B1G with a series win wold go a long way towards a title.

Looked like a cold one at Pearl Field today. Almost went over but decided not to. Will probably go tomorrow.

The coaches have to be puzzled and frustrated after such a strong non-con run. Not only getting swept, but out-scored 21-5. Not a good time to have white-hot Wisconsin (25-3) coming in, then after that Nebraska (22-6). Not to mention having to go to Michigan in a few weeks. Good thing the B10 tournament is back this year.

The first RPI rankings of the season were released on Monday. B1G represented well.....

Neb 17
Mich 18
Wisc 21
Iowa 25
MN 31
OSU 54
NW 61

If the season ended today the top five would be in and OSU/NW would have a shot. No easy games left on our schedule.

Amusing that we still lead MN after getting impressively swept at home by them over the weekend...

1-5 in Big Ten play now after going 1-2 vs Wisconsin

Yeah, 1-5 in the conference is pretty disappointing especially since the first two seris were at home. Both MN and Wisc have good teams though. Our schedule does not get any easier with Drake, Neb, Nw and Michigan up next. We need to find a way to win a series or two.

Anybody know how the conference tournament is going to work? Will it be the top 6 teams?

FYI, the Minnesota team that clobbered us a week ago dropped 2 of 3 to NW.

All teams will participate in the Big 10 Tourney.

NW whooped up on Moulton pretty good. It's hard to tell not being at the games, but it seemed like we had base runners but were not able to push them accross like we did early in the season. Reminded me of a few years ago when we had all sorts of issues manufacturing runs. Darrah and Moulton are both great pitchers. It is concerning we did not push runs accross on their #2 pitchers though.

New RPI out today....

Iowa is #24! with wins over #10 Louisville, #13 Ky, #19 Stanford, #21 Wisconsin and #23 UL-Lafayette plus a couple other top 50 wins. Our schedule was really tough this year and is NOT getting easier.

Big Ten RPI rankings - Neb 18, Mich 20, Wisc 21, Iowa 24, MN 36, NW 45. Everyone else between 68 and 122.

We need to split (atleast) this week with #69 Drake and #18 Nebraska (3 games).

Anyone at the games the last two weekends? What is different now than earlier in the season.

Go Hawks.

We have one slightly above average pitcher and one below average. Our pitching staff needs to improve to be a consistent player in the BIG and NCAA tournament.

Iowa loses to #9 Michigan 5-3, they play a doubleheader on Sunday. It would be nice to get one of those. It seems that spring sports suck right now for an Iowa fan.

Got swept by Michigan (despite 2 HRs from Megan Blank in game 1) to fall to 4-11 in conference play.

Honestly, I think Gary Barta should be FIRED for the pathetic performance of his entire athletic department. The ONLY thing he is good for is to raise $$. Important, yes, but so is winning! If we don't care about being competitive with our conference brothers, then let's just have an intramural department. UGH! Another year with ZERO conference titles--oh wait! I forgot the Wrestling dual title. Far cry from when were were conference and NCAA champs almost every year!
