Coming into Iowa's final regular season series against a terrible Northwestern team, Iowa was in good position to make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. Friday night's loss to the Wildcats pushed the Hawks a little closer to the Tournament Bubble. Another loss to Northwestern could've put Iowa back squarely into bubble conversation.
To avoid a series loss, Iowa turned to Brody Brecht in game 3. Brecht responded with a 6 inning outing in which he surrendered just 1 hit, 1 walk, and no runs.
