Bottom of 1st:

TONS OF CONTROVERSY COST IOWA 2 RUNS

IU lead off batter doubles

Next batter: Adreon catches the ball; the ump says he dropped it; Heller is pissed and comes out to argue. The runner had not tagged up so if it had been ruled an out, it would have been a DOUBLE PLAY with nobody on base

INSTEAD
, AFTER THE UMPS GATHER TO DISCUSS, THEY SAY ADREON DROPPED THE BALL!!!

IU runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs

Next IU batter singles, bringing in 2 RUNS.

HELLER IS STILL NOT HAPPY & IS BARKING FROM THE DUGOUT

Next IU batter walks; runners on 1st and 2nd, STILL NO OUTS!!!!!

Next IU batter singles; BASES LOADED; NO OUTS!!!

Next IU batter is HIT; IU leads 3-0; BASES LOADED; NO OUTS!!!

Irvine is pulled

Jacob Henderson will be coming in

IU LEADS 3-0, BASES LOADED, WITH STILL NOBODY OUT

IU scores 2 more and leads 5-0 after 1 inning

IU wins 12-6

See what I quoted above.

If that ump does not blow that call, Iowa might have gotten out of the 1st inning giving up 0 runs. Instead, IU scored 5.

Huge, huge mistake by the ump that hurt the Hawk's chances today.

Tomorrow's the rubber game. First pitch for tomorrow's series finale is set for 11 a.m. (CT).

GO HAWKS!!!

And the ump will look at the replay tonight and tell anyone that asks...."Welp, yep oh well. That's just what happens, and I guess Iowa will just have to deal with it."

The vast majority of collegiate umps and officials are notoriously self-centered individuals who do not like owning up to their mistakes, especially publicly, but even behind closed doors its just one big f***ing joke to them ("Ahh hahaha guess I missed that one huyuck huyuck huyuck"), which is one accountability does not exist........

Truer story than you want to think, btw.

A few things...

That call obviously doesn’t cost Iowa the game, but it changes the feel. Maybe Irvine settles down and gets out with no damage? Who knows.

Iowa left 12 men on base. The only hit Iowa got with the bases loaded was the Fullard single. A double puts up multiple runs, then who knows? Indiana walked nine Iowa batters, and Iowa didn’t take advantage enough.

To answer an above poster, same ump crew all weekend. They just rotate who is behind the plate each game and so on.

Unfortunately Maryland and Ohio State have hit the easy portion of their schedule if you want to call it that. OSU has Minnesota and MSU the next two weeks. I keep hoping Minnesota can find a way to take one from Maryland or OSU, but it doesn’t appear there going to happen.

This Paul Toetz dude has been a thorn in Iowa’s side this weekend, and he’s set like half of his offensive single season highs vs Iowa this weekend, go figure right? He’s only a freshman.

Top of 3rd:

this game is getting really, really sloppy

Adreon, in RF, allowed a single to turn into a double

On an IU bunt to 1st, Baumann didn't get to 1st base fast enough, so the runner was safe

On a pick off attempt at 2nd, luckily Baumann hit the IU runner in the head; otherwise, he would have thrown the ball away

So, after all of that....

IU now leads 2-1

Top of 4th:

Iowa has runners on 1st and 2nd w/ 2 outs and Wallace singles, scoring Nedved

McLeary strikes out looking to end inning (Iowa leaves runners at 1st and 2nd)

We are tied at 2

7-2 Indiana now, Iowa allows all five runs with two outs. Baumann day is done, Davitt in. I don’t see Iowa coming back in this one. What started as a weekend with promise, ends with a gut punch. Iowa barely in 4th after today with Rutgers, Maryland, and OSU all hot with favorable schedules.

Bottom of 4th:

ALL THE DAMAGE CAME W/ 2 OUTS

W/ 2 outs
and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Paul Toetz hits his 3rd double of the day, driving in 2 runs

Next batter hits a triple, driving in another run

Next batter hits a HOME RUN, scoring 2 more

Baumann exits; Davitt in

Iowa finally gets out of the inning

IU now leads 7-2

Fullard hit Iowa’s first extra base hit since Friday in the 5th, nobody was on base. Iowa got runners on the corners with twos, but they K to end the inning. Iowa has stuck out nine times so far today.

Rally caps!
