I wonder if any potential candidates might come off the sidelines if they knew there would be a serious debate where they could talk sense for a change. No, I don't have any in mind at the moment.

I would like to watch an intelligent debate on the economy
and our fiscal policies. We are spending ourselves into
oblivion. There is no financial sanity in either political party.
Does anyone have a genuine plan to turn this nation on
the path to a balanced budget? We cannot live in a perpetual

That's a good topic, too.

I added Rifkin to my panel of questioners for the science debate for that reason. He's into the impacts of technology and such on the future economy, among other things. I don't want a debate so much to learn how much science they know - although that's important - as to learn how science figures into their policies for America going forward.

That would require both parties, or either party depending on your perspective, to quit spending so much on things near and dear to their heart in addition to the things they are against. Since neither party is willing to give some to get some, it won't happen.

This is but one of the reasons why both Dems and Pubs suck something fierce.

Depends on the discipline, but I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'm not as well versed in theoretical astrophysics, but could probably make up those deficiencies if some of the categories included molecular biology, broadly speaking.
