Their only "holes" are 125 and 149 and those two spots still will qualify for NCAAs. From 157 up they are nothing but finalist caliber guys with multiple champs. You better win the first 4 matchs in a dual with them because you aren't winning many of the last 6. They have 8 sure fire AAs right now and most of those 8 will be top 5 imo. Ugh.

Outside of Shapiro and Foca, Cornell looked very pedestrian. I did enjoy seeing Hoffman get stacked up. Ramirez could have easily lost to Hepner at 165. Is he really a number 3?

Unfortunately their 125 lb hole whipped on the kid that beat Ayala. Sigh

I agree Drake has looked really good. It just sucks that PSUs weak spots will absolutely be contending for AA status.
Neither Kaylor or Davis will be in the mix to AA this year! Drake has improved by a lot since his loss to Kaylor, but he still needs to find the next gear to AA this season. I think he will!

In the mix meaning neither will get to the blood round?

depends how the seeds go, but they are about as good as their current rankings
Fair enough. Just as you think Drake has improved and will be better, I think it’s likely one or both of Davis/Kaylor will be in the ”mix” to AA this year. In the mix meaning get to the blood round and see what happens. Especially with as wide open as 125 is. No one bulletproof at the top.

Cornell would have had at least a 9 point swing in their favor if Vito was in the lineup. Also, Ramirez beat Carr so yes, he's a top 3 guy.

Who TF is Rocco Welsh???

Saw that, hope that was just a bad match by Ayala - he did just beat a 2 time AA and volk
It wasn't just a bad match from Ayala, it was terrible and gave me concern that maybe he wasn't what we hoped he would be. Kaylor isn't great and Drake did nothing in that match.

Last weekend he was the guy we expected and he will need to bring that type of effort every match for the rest of the season. The Big10 is loaded at 125 (6 of the top 8 currently) and Spratley is a tough SOB.

What drives me nuts as a fan is both he and Teske have a bad habit of getting down early and then turn it on late for come from behind wins. These are tough to come by with better opponents. Both have great motors and have really good techniques from neutral, I wish there was more of a sense of urgency in the first period.

No one outside of you seems to know how 125 is going to shake out. Tell us more.
okay now that you asked, I actually have been digging into this and really looking at who maybe the top guys at the end. Obviously 125 is wide open for the taking, but This is what I got, My top 8 plus 5 wild cards.
Noto
Poulin
Ramos
Ayala
Volk
Barnett
Provo
DeAugustino
wild cards
Mckee, Smith, Ungar, Peterson, Spratley

Welsh is Class of 2023, currently a true freshman at tOSU. He will probably become their starter at 174, with Kharchla now out for the season with injury.

Welsh was around the #8 ranked P4P recruit in the 2023 class.

4X PA state finalist and 2X state champ.
2X Iron Man champ
1X Super 32 champ
1X Powerade champ
3X Fargo AA, Fargo finalist in 2022
Gold medalist at 2021 Pan-Am games
Finalist in 2023 US Open U20 at 79 kg (lost to Gabe Arnold on criteria in the final)

Thanks, I knew that name sounded familiar but couldn't place it. He was a lot of fun to watch!

Somehow I missed that CK was out for the year. Does one of them bump up to 84 next year?

Ramirez can be streaky. Do you get the one who beats David Carr and Quincy Monday or the one who loses to the #29 seed first round of NCAA’s?
