I'm good with that since our in state talent is headed to Georgia.
My suspicion is they’ve got their eyes on someone down under and have for some time.I don't get how we let the kid from Mediapolis Iowa go. And I realize Georgia offered a full ride and Iowa wasn't; just don't get why Iowa was holding back. Drew Miller is a helluva punter (ranked #1 in the country, IIRC).
AustraliowaI'll definitely take another Aussie if possible. Need to keep that Iowa-Australia network going!

There are like 45 Australian punters in the NCAA right now. Not an exageration. So we aren't the only school getting these Aussies?
I’m still around, just reading mostly. His dad hasn't posted here in awhile now... that I have seen anyway. It sucks.

So I just looked...the current Georgia punter is a sophomore. He's punted 24X in 10 games. My suspicion is they’ve got their eyes on someone down under and have for some time.
See, "Family of Proctor, Kadyn". J/K @MepoDawg#Congrats to you and your son. I would say that Georgia is a decent substitute for Iowa. Unfortunately, the trip to the games will be just a bit further.
Scholly is scholly. If there was huge NIL $$ that might make a difference. But, like it or not, NIL $$ probably doesn't get spread around equally. So I just looked...the current Georgia punter is a sophomore. He's punted 24X in 10 games.
The Mediapolis kid will ride the bench for a year, maybe two, and not get many chances to showcase his talents.
We can revisit this discussion in 4 years and see who made the right call.
Post-Roby, Tom Nichol took over for a year or two, then they brought on Gary Kostrubala. No matter what he did, "It wasn't Reggie Roby!".Poor guy. He could come in and be an average to good Big Ten punter and he wouldn’t even begin to compare to Tory. Conversely our new offensive coordinator will be on the complete opposite side of things in terms of expectations.
Just a little off the mark with knowing the exact situation. Yes, the current punter is a true sophomore and has punted 24 times. However, he is Australian and went to school for two years there which apparently counts so he is out of eligibility. They have submitted a Covid waiver, but not sure if he’ll get it since he wasn’t here in the US.So I just looked...the current Georgia punter is a sophomore. He's punted 24X in 10 games.

And part of the problem for NIL is it doesn’t fully replace a scholarship plus it’s self employment income so you have to consider taxes.Scholly is scholly. If there was huge NIL $$ that might make a difference. But, like it or not, NIL $$ probably doesn't get spread around equally.
It's entirely possible Drew liked the idea of Athens in February versus Iowa City in February. Or maybe he just likes the campus better. Or, you know, a free education from the get-go versus paying full price. No-brainer for most people, I would think.
CrikeyThere are like 45 Australian punters in the NCAA right now. Not an exageration.
The offense continues to shine like it has a punter should be a top priority in your mind.Thank god a punter is top of mind.
Get some rugby players while they're at it.I'll definitely take another Aussie if possible. Need to keep that Iowa-Australia network going!
Damn you have a good memory. Forgot about KostrubalaPost-Roby, Tom Nichol took over for a year or two, then they brought on Gary Kostrubala. No matter what he did, "It wasn't Reggie Roby!".
To be fair, those guys didn't have to punt nearly as often as Tory.
But no one loves them like we love our punter. There are like 45 Australian punters in the NCAA right now. Not an exageration.
^^ From this keyboard to God's Plan...^^We won't need a punter next year because with the new offensive coordinator we don't plan on punting
Ah, you answered a question I have re: taxes. Can NIL be used for tuition, etc? Or are you saying it can NOT be, by design, so as not to use NIL to skirt scholly limits? And part of the problem for NIL is it doesn’t fully replace a scholarship plus it’s self employment income so you have to consider taxes.
I had him in my "Shakespeare" class Spring 1985. He was actually a hell of an athlete, I believe IL state discus champion for Marist.Damn you have a good memory. Forgot about Kostrubala
Apologies if I sounded like I was criticizing your son's choice.Just a little off the mark with knowing the exact situation. Yes, the current punter is a true sophomore and has punted 24 times. Also, their kickoff guy is a scholarship senior who hasn’t seen the field until this year and it only doing kickoffs as they don’t want their field goal guy doing kickoffs. So there’s an opportunity right away. The kicker is a true freshman and won’t be unseated. He will also have the opportunity to hold and playing QB helps him with that.
As for the number of punts. It isn’t about who punts the most. Jake Camarda (the punter and 4 year starter before the current punter) punted 43, 61, 36 and 47 times. He was drafted in the 4th round in 2022 and is a two year starter for Tampa Bay. Current punter started as a freshman and punted 36 times with a 45 avg. They have NFL scouts there everyday so he’ll be seen no matter what. And who says Drew wouldn’t beat him out if he has one more year. They’re going to let him compete for the job and obviously aren’t opposed to a freshman specialist.
Now academics. He’s going to major in Digital Marketing (maybe double in graphic design). While every school has marketing, Georgia has a digital marketing emphasis. Georgia overall is a top 20 public school and top 15 business school. He’ll get to intern with either Georgia sports marketing department or one of the pro teams out of Atlanta.
And in the end Iowa never offered and never seemed like they were going to. To me personally it seemed like they were waiting to offer a PWO late thinking since we’re Iowa fans and close to home that he’d jump at the chance. But yes, only time will tell who made the right choice. He’ll either succeed or he won’t, but it won’t matter where he’s attending. It’s on him to put in the work. So far he’s exceeded those expectations.

It can be used for tuition and other expenses by the student-athletes as it’s their money, but they still have to pay taxes on it like normal income. It can’t be directly paid to the university by the collective or whomever is paying the student-athlete.Ah, you answered a question I have re: taxes. Can NIL be used for tuition, etc? Or are you saying it can NOT be, by design, so as not to use NIL to skirt scholly limits?
Lots of factors there including the state of Georgia having scholarship programs for their in-state residents to a lot of their public, technical and private colleges/universities.I’ll admit to being disappointed we weren’t able to land him either - ironic tho for people criticizing Iowa for not offering a schollie when it wasn’t that long ago Kirk was catching flak for offering schollies to specialists.
I am a little surprised Georgia could have a scholarship to use on a specialist out of the gate considering how they’ve stockpiled talent elsewhere.

I was looking at it more from Iowa's perspective.
