The Great James P Whitter lll

The best part about the ignore feature on this forum is that the posts are completely gone. There's no post placeholder wimpy "show ignored content" link to tempt you into reading what you know will raise your blood pressure. (OK, there's an itty-bitty one at the bottom of the page but you have...

    Willie sends props to Azchief

Why would he have posted here about a wrestling match that didn't involve Iowa?

Take it up with God's stenographers, Kwood. Bible quotes get a pass on historical accuracy. :D

    Brandon Sorensen Midlands Outstanding Wrestler

You're right. You didn't say that I was supposed to excuse it, and I didn't mean to imply that you did say that but it certainly can be read that way. And I'm sorry that I decided to have a tantrum over this topic at this particular moment and in reply to you because I agree with your posts on...

Of course it doesn't. But saying that I'm tired of people using the "we all make mistakes so let's not criticize someone who committed assault and rape" does not mean I'm judging him at all, let alone unfairly. It means that I think part of redemption is owning your own mistakes and not making...

I agree. I don't think people should be forever punished for mistakes they've made if they have truly repented and are building a new life. But I don't have to applaud them or brush away the harm they've done to themselves or others, either. He screwed up, royally and multiple times. Now he...

I don't have a specific opinion on Long, but I really really really super-duper hate the "we've all made mistakes in our teens and early 20s" thing. I've never served time in prison, Turkish or otherwise..

    Brody Grothus

Here's another good brain teaser for you if that one starts to wear off: Put a troll on Ignore, then try to guess from the content of the posts after his what he might have said to tick everyone off. No points if the subsequent posters quote him in their replies.

Oh, sure. It seems obvious when you spell it out like that, but for the longest time I was convinced you were a former wrestler with the initials GG who went 121-2 in his career. Went through a few old Iowa rosters looking for you, too. :-)

    Putting the 42,287 into Perspective

OK, if you're saying that your friend had tickets but not everyone with him did, and they all got in, then you've got a point. That wasn't at all clear in what you originally posted. I don't need to have the last word as long as the last word is accurate. :-) That was my first time in Kinnick...

    Putting the 42,287 into Perspective

You said they had tickets, right? Then they were already counted, at the time they bought the tickets. I don't know how (much) more clearly it can be said. As PrairieHawk stated, the official attendance number is based on tickets sold, not tickets scanned at the gate. Unless your friends didn't...

Eat fewer cookies, not less. Fewer is the proper qualifier for things that can be counted. Less should be used for mass nouns. If you're going to be a jerk, at least be a grammatically correct one. You're welcome.

    Congrats!

I watched the late-night SportsCenter Saturday and again Sunday morning (it was pretty much the same telecast). Grapple on the Gridiron was the second story, worked into a package that went from GotG to OkSU/ISU football to UI/Minny football. It was very well done, I thought (though not nearly...

    THE EVENT

I think the notion of doing it once every 5 years or so makes a lot of sense. I'd also love to see this open the door to other "outside the box" ideas to promote the sport. OK, we've held a meet in the football stadium to great success. What's the next "so crazy it can't possibly work" idea?

Whew! Thanks for the update. I was having trouble sleeping, wondering what the official WWDM judgment was going to be. I'm glad we were able to agree in the end. ;)

    Hawkeye express for wrestling?

There is free parking at West High School and a free shuttle running every 15 minutes (roughly, depending on traffic) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., though. If you're not sticking around for the football game, it's a good parking option.

Don't forget former Hawkeye Blake Rasing, also born on this date! October 25 was a good day for Hawkeye wrestling.
