Maybe this will help distract some of you after a tough loss.
The wife and I were walking along a trail in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona this afternoon, me with my standard black Iowa ball cap with gold I on. We passed a couple and the man said, “Is that I for Iowa or Illinois”? Maybe I was tired and dehydrated, but I responded, “Good Lord, man. It’s the black and gold”! My wife responded politely it was an Iowa hat, and we live in Iowa City. The man then says, “I’m from Iowa, too”.
Okay, now I’m turning to see if he’s playing, or a moron. I get my answer when he says, “I’m an Iowa State fan. I haven’t had too much to brag about lately, but I root for Iowa when we aren’t playing”.
My wife then lied and said we root for Iowa State in return.
For the record, I’m going with moron, and he is somehow so unaware that he didn’t know it’s an Iowa hat. Somehow. He’s the only ISU fan who lives in Iowa that doesn’t know what a black hat with a gold I stands for.
