🚀🚀🚀 Mars Colonization Mega Thread 🚀🚀🚀

Who cares? It’s a waste of time and resources.

List of scientific advancements that have come from space exploration:

Technological Innovations: Miniaturized computers, advanced solar panels, and improved water purification systems.

Medical Advances: Development of CAT scans, infrared ear thermometers, and telemedicine technologies.

Materials Science: Memory foam, scratch-resistant lenses, and high-performance alloys.

Earth Observation: Enhanced weather prediction, climate change monitoring, and natural disaster management.

Communication: Satellite technology leading to global internet and GPS.

Additional Information: Space exploration has also spurred international cooperation, like the International Space Station, fostering peace and collaboration in science. Moreover, the push for space travel has led to significant advancements in robotics and automation.

If you're really interested, this is a good book on colonizing space. Covers both technical issues and political issues. They basically conclude it would be incredibly expensive and a lot of issues would need to be figured out before we try

Looks very interesting. I would like to read that at some point.

A human will likely set foot on Mars in the next 30 years. We will not establish a colony there in my lifetime though. As it turns out, nobody really wants to go to a place where you will die if you go outside without spacewalking gear for the rest of their lives. Earth hasn't become that miserable of a place to live. It could get that way though in 50-75 years though if the pro-climate change people get their way.

the martian was published in 2011. that story is set in 2035 and describes the 3rd manned mission to mars. if weir knew what he was writing about maybe we actually do set foot (first manned mission) on mars within 5 years. i know i'm yoyoing from no-way in my previous post to this based on a delightful book and great movie

We'll hopefully have gone back to the moon by then. We aren't really even close to going to Mars. SpaceX's Starship is the first ship with a chance of getting us there but that can only realistically take a few people. Maybe 5-10. I have no idea how Elon thinks he's going to fit 100 people on those things, be able to feed and hydrate all of them, and not have themselves killing each other by the end of the trip on that. The ship used in The Martian is a far more realistic version of what we would need to get there. Also, the flying hotel ship in "For All Mankind" was a realistic one as well. Those others are just too small for multiple people to travel in for months at a time.

Alright boyz and girlz.

Place your predictions here. Here is a cheat sheet.

What say you @Tiny Hands Trump ?
@Joes Place ?
@GOHOX69 ?

Which month and year will humans first step foot on Mars?

Perhaps you or Elno could address just a couple of the dozen+ issues noted in this excellent summary...

Not only will we colonize Mars, tourism will be a profitable business!

Does George know how long “never” is?

The hubris it takes to make a claim like that.

Some other fine predictions by George types.

Humans will “never” fly.
Humans will “never” walk on the moon.

I'm sure he does

Along with recognizing the complexities of living on a planet w/o adequate atmosphere or gravity, and no radiation shielding from solar and cosmic sources. Those seem to be things you also do not understand.

Why do you suppose The Boring Company exists?

Humanity on Mars will begin underground. The self imposed limitations of your mind are boring to me.

The left is too short sighted to recognize the obvious value that exists. Their concerns lie more with having diversity amongst their astronauts. Seriously unserious people..

The Vegas loop is a game changer btw. Got to use it for the first time back in October. 3.50 for a ride that saved me 30 minutes of time sitting in traffic on the strip (that would have also cost me at least 10x more money as well). The boring machines are absolutely part of his mars agenda. Elon really has been planning this for a long time now.
