11/22 Rankings

Hell, give Bull the 2. I'm sure it wouldn't matter to him one bit. Maybe he'd get some better luck as a 2 seed anyway
Exactly, hell he has wrestled the eventual champ in the quarterfinals both times as the #1 seed in the last two NCAA's. I'd say that is a terrible draw for the 1 seed regardless of the whole having to beat them eventually argument anyway. I'd rather meet them in the finals than the quarters any day. The bull is a monster and barring injury he will be in the finals this year, mark my words.

So, he got beat by an 8th seed.twice?

O'Toole has a very legit argument for #1. He placed higher last year than Marinelli ever has and only has 1 career loss. Also had better wins last year (mostly because Marinelli hardly wrestled anybody because the big ten was weak and he got hurt at NCAA's). I would probably rank O'Toole #1, but don't think there's a wrong answer.

O'Toole may have had more matches but his toughest opponent before NCAAs was Olejnik. In five matches, Bull beat two AAs (Smith and Amine). I think O'Toole is a killer and Alex has to prove he can get it done at NCAAs but beating good competition during the season has never been Bull's issue.

well yeah, but then he beat a bunch of good guys at ncaas. it depends on what you value more: legacy vs. recency. Starting from last season to now, O'Toole has better wins and a better finish.

If it's a tie, you have to go with legacy. Bull has beaten all the big names and is rock solid consistent (until NCAA's but I'm not looking to get into that). The young gun has to prove it and beat the bull before he can earn the tiebreaker.

i don’t think it’s a tie because i think rankings should reflect recency and over the past year o’toole has a better body of work. it’s not o’toole’s fault marinelli got hurt. marinelli doesn’t get credit for matches he didn’t wrestle.

So for example, a guy wins two national titles in years prior, then gets hurt and DNP's last year at NCAAs, and you're ranking O'Toole higher because his results are more recent?

what if marinelli won ncaa's? would I rank him over o'toole then? yes obviously. you can come up with all sorts of reasons to rank marinelli over o'toole if you don't limit yourself to things that actually happened.

higher career ncaa finish - o'toole
higher most recent ncaa finish - o'toole
better wins in the last calendar year - o'toole
better career wins - marinelli

like i said, you can make a legit argument for marinelli. i think the argument for o'toole is better.

Fair enough, we simply disagree on how we think the rankings should work.

Heavyweight really bothers me. I get that Cass got pinned but to put him behind 4 guys he has beaten in the last year seems lame to me.
You’re looking only at the negative. Think of it this way — the under-ranking gives PSU fans a false sense of security in the closeness of the predicted team scores. 😉

the knock on Young is his lack of offense at times but NEVER question his desire to contribute to the team. he is a quiet leader and his stoic attitude should not be mistaken for not wanting to mix it up....he is an excellent scrambler but i think he does need to initiate more action as to find himself in more scrambles and find himself in more scoring situations. YES his weight cut is BRUTAL but he does it without complaint and he makes it week in and week out.... he is the type of guy who is more of the cement and not the block in the wall...he helps keep the team together and is always a solid contributor that can be counted on and when its Tournament time he will grind his way into AA status again and rack up those needed points for the hawks.
And not to forget he wrestled the defending National Champion at their house. Go Hawks!!!

And here we are… what do the people that actually do the rankings have it as. And who gives a shit because all that matters is what happens going forward and in March. I’m sure it will be a war and both will be ready.
