125: Ybarra or ...

I bet we see Spencer once, it makes no sense seeing him continually on the probable lineup lists just to weigh in.

Not seeing Kem is a bit surprising. It makes me think that he picked up some kinda injury between the army dual and now. He weighed in at Iowa st.

Not really that surprised
Ok guys here’s some food for thought on Kemerer. I have a gut feeling Assad wrestled every match in Florida and both he and Wilson go to Midlands. If neither one turn heads so to speak I think Kemerer man’s 184 the rest of the way.
lightbulb! Not only does this look like it could be our best lineup, but if anyone can knock off Brooks for the 184 title it could definitely be MK

Well if you're going to do stupid shit like this, might as well bump Marinelli up 9 lbs too, and pull Kennedy's redshirt. I wouldn't want Michael Kemerer feeling bad in his quest for his first individual National Title, being the only Iowa guy to be 9-10 lbs undersized against a DI Field, why not let The Bull join in these zany escapades too ..........

What did ya fall out of your hunting stand and get a branch stuck in your ass?
Just like you these are just fan based thoughts and mine come with a bit of experience in the upper weights. Kem is good enough and strong enough to go with anyone at 184 especially if there was ideas brewing about this, also Nelson is wrestling better at 174 then Wilson or Assad at 184 plain and simple. We are talking about two weight classes no more.

So any time you are ready, you can stop walking sideways and pull that maple branch out your arse.

Lighten up, Francis.

Not buying it Grip. Why have Kem weigh in at 74 for ISU then?
I know there is a bunch that does not make sense and we are taking shots in the dark, but just like everyone else I am very impatiently waiting to find out what our final lineup is going to be.

obviously everyone is concerned and wondering what the heck is going on with Spencer, but Im now more concerned about Kemmerer and it’s making me think more outside the box if that’s Possible.

I think you'll see Kem back after the New Year. I also think it was a stipulation of his to return another year which he wasn't entirely on board to begin with.

When Jeff Prescott was at 118 (125), there was no one in the NCAA ranks that could “compete” with him for the win.

Chad Zaputil kept it close, but was as far from winning that match as he was the year before.

Prescott moved up to challenge Terry Brands (Brands was coming off his loss in the finals to Keller) so he felt he had a chance.

brand Tech Falled him!
Nate Carr as a senior and already a two time NCAA champion moved up thinking he could beat the young upstart sophomore who had only placed 5th the year before.

Jimmy Z dismantled and dominated him, putting Carr on his back multiple times.

Those are two elite, amongst the greatest the sport has ever known, couldn’t move up 8 pounds and be competitive.

I am a huge Michael K fan, and the move could work if he is a legitimate 184 pounder. If he is not, 184 is a really deep weight class and will not be kind to him.

But that is just my opinion!

It is not possible.

The season has a LONG way to go. Relax. You're going to whip yourself up into a lifetime supply of Xanax if you're not careful.

You are comparing apples and oranges. You are using wrestlers who went up a weight for entire seasons, not one match.
Apparently my historical understanding of the referenced wrestlers is lacking. Carry on.

(Willie Miklus wrestled up at 197 and J'Den Cox wrestled 285 for one dual to keep Missouri's dual meet streak alive: both won and J'Den got a major decision and Missouri won 18-17)

The point re: Kemerer is that he is undersized for 184, and even elite guys do not fare well up a weight (vs. the best at that weight) if they are undersized. If Kem were a full-sized 184, then he would certainly be considered a legitimate contender for the title there. But he isn’t a full-sized 184.

Your Dake and Garrett examples don’t work because they did have the mass to compete with the best at the higher weights.

no the real problem with your references was that they were guys who moved up for the season. dake and nahshon didn’t start the season at 157/125 and then move up. they grew into the weight over the offseason.

who did willie and j’den wrestle in that dual? top 5 guys?

the problem isn’t kem wrestling up for a match. it’s that 184 is not his best weight evidenced by the fact he’s already weighed in at 174. add in the injury history and unless he’s actually struggling to make 174 and is a true 184, it makes no sense to have him wrestle up. even with no pts at 184, he could very well outscore a brands/kem 174/184 combo by himself at 174.

I understand my error, thanks. It's been pointed out several times in oh so polite terms. I gave two examples of guys who wrestled up a weight class once in a dual. Wasn't that the part that I missed? Maybe I should have just added the Bryce Meredith win over Seth Gross as another example.

People make mistakes on boards. Why do so many of you have to be so rude about it? I thought that maybe some here care more about wrestling than just the ten starters on the Iowa team, but apparently I was wrong.
