I believe Iowa is still projected to be favored in all but the next game and the last two. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see MSU favored over Iowa as well. Iowa needs to put together a string of wins to retain some confidence. 5-3 over the next 8 is legitimately attainable. That would leave Iowa in the unenviable position to go on the road needing a split to stay alive for a tourney bid.

That's honestly optimistic based on how Fran's teams fade/get surpassed offensively down the stretch in B10 play.

Most, if not all of the bracket gurus have Iowa in the tourney (see Frannie's other mega-thread). Take a look at the teams with the last four byes, last 4 in and first 4 OUT in these predictions. Almost all of them have higher NET rankings (some in 50s, 60s and 70s) along with similar (or poorer) records than Iowa. Computers like Iowa for some reason, perhaps since most of our losses are to good teams and road losses. Good thing HR posters don't determine the field of 64. We are about where we all thought pre season after losing Nunge, Garza and Weezy.

actually the team isn’t that bad. The “coach” is a moron who has no idea who should be on the court. Nor does he have a clue about fundamentals like defense and rebounding. Oh, and please let us know the next time he puts together an actual play in a late game situation.

You're kidding yourself if you think there will be a major uprising calling for McCaffery's job. Most of the fan angst is on this board and the rest of Iowa's basketball fans are either accepting of a down year or apathetic. Barta is THE ONLY MAN that can get McCaffery fired and he just gave him an extension.

I know quite a few who don't care for Fran and that's before taking a team with multiple pros and not even making the nit. That would be an epic fail....

Lickliter was going to get a 4th year but Gaten's, hawkeye royalty and the best player on the team threatened to transfer after they got smoked in BTT and that forced Barta's hand.

Lickliter was obviously incompetent and it took 3 years. Alford had a middling record similar to Fran and got the Talk fom Barta.....with actual goals......since Barta screwed up the hire after Alford left, maybe he is afraid he'll blow it again if Fran left.

Assuming this year is NIT, and next year is NIT, My hope would be that Barta gives Fran the talk. Fran having the large ego about his "body of work" might take Jack and move on like Alford did and save a buyout..

Or I am am also okay with Fran looking in the mirror and deciding he has been too stubborn to not embrace defense, not embrace portal, and not asking PMAC to rebound/play defense. This year's team is not far from being good. Fran really has old man's disease and stuck in a rut.
