How much of this do we keep? Do we pay travel expenses or does the Rose Bowl? What is the B1Gs cut? What an insane amount of money for playing a football game. Wow!

If I remember correctly, the school gets 30% of the amount and the rest goes to the conference for redistribution. Maybe it has changed?

IIRC, Iowa gets one full share for expenses and then 1/14 share of the rest. Wait to you see the official party list. Iowa faculty who have never been to a game get a nice free ride.

Schools share equally in the revenue generated by the Big Ten through television contracts, NCAA distributions, bowl games along with the gate receipts from the league's men's basketball tournament and football championship game.

The only exception is the better the bowl the more they get for travel.

Iowa gets a larger traveling party reimbursement than smaller bowls, but otherwise it all gets split by the conference.

Well then... I think we all owe Minnesota and Nebraska a BIG thank you for somehow managing to win 5 games and "earn" a bowl bid!

Interesting, but why is the Orange Bowl such an outlier-- $27m??? That doesn't make sense.

Go to the link in the last line of the article I linked; it will take you to another story that (somewhat) explains the issue.

All the good stuff from the bowls and the BTN are what makes the Big Ten such a good conference for teams. I think I heard that when the B1G expanded Texas was considered but refused to share the Longhorn network with the other conference teams. Too bad for Texas.

Like Texas, Notre Dame does not want to share its television revenue from NBC.

ND makes up a little bit on the bowl side, but not a huge amount. In the BCS system, if they made a BCS game, their payout was what the BCS team paid for a second team from a conference. I don't know their CFP payout but I imagine it is similar.

ND would make more money in a conference, but they value being semi-independent and thinking they're different.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a reward the players and coaches. Instead it looks more like a congressional junket where many people are rewarded who care little about football and a lot about title 9

Its supposed to be a commercial entity looking to bring tourist dollars to the local market. Fans have spun it as "reward for the players". It was never a reward for the players.

It's still a pretty good reward for the players. I think if you asked most players that were able to go on one of these high profile bowl trips that they had a great time and brought home lots of free stuff.

Given MSU, Iowa and OSU are in playoff and New Year 6 games, plus games that Michigan, Wisc and NW got that will cover expenses, the conference check book will look pretty nice. I am pretty sure it is split 15 ways between 14 teams and the conference office. I used to do audit of athletic dept and that was policy when we had 10 teams, but may have changed with new additions. As noted above, participation in NCAA BB tourney adds to league pot for split too, so the more teams in, the more money and the further they advance, the amount grows too. If conference gets two teams to Final Four, it is nice day for other 12 teams too.

I think there is some confusion in this thread. The kids and coaches earned this trip. Some University entitlement parasites will attach themselves to this vacation.

My post isn't about the fans, it's about waste and fraud at the hands of the usual suspects.

Get over yourself. The "kids" wouldn't be able to go anywhere if there wasn't a university supporting them, and our $4 million a year coach would the best OL coach in the NFL if it weren't for the deep pockets of the U and the foresight of a few administrators.

You're just as big of a parasite as anyone else that you're trying to rip on here.
