25 teams in the tournament in '56. The Far West bracket had 5 teams with 3 byes, while the East bracket had 8 teams. West and Midwest had 6 teams with 2 byes each. Iowa had a bye, then played 2 games in Iowa City @ The Fieldhouse beating Morehead St and Kentucky, then moving on to the Final Four at Welsh Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, beating Temple before losing to San Francisco.Times they have changed...
