1A title game

I know people are upset but I do not believe a shot clock would benefit Iowa high school basketball because you would speed up the game to athletes who are not ready for that and the scores would actually be worse than what they are.

Huh? You have Never played the game of basketball, have you??

I was ready for a shot clock 30 years ago, and I sucked compared to kids today.

You do realize that the shot clock does not have to be 24 seconds, or even 30 seconds. And it is adjustable. Literally. You can set the time to be 45 seconds. Or 90 seconds for the kids playing in wheelchairs...
Dang

Well for the people who are complaining that I shot clock will increase scoring they are wrong. The IC West vs Dubuque Senior game ended in a 39-36 score. The TOP was even and they figured that there was a shot every 23seconds. Both teams shot poorly and that’s why you get these low scores.

People don’t understand that the game has changed. There are no more shooters and the players attack more, and expect to be bailed out.

If Iowa introduces a shot clock, I expect the
Scores at State to be in the upper 60’s according to you. Moron

The suspense is killing me! Did Alburnette make double digits or not?!
They lost 43-24. All the announcers talked about the entire 4th qtr was the lowest point total in state tourny history was 22pts and if Alburnette could top it or not. Subs came in and scored 5 points in the last 3 minutes to hit 24.

Bummer! I always like to see records fall.

I’ve seen some high school coaches go full “Hickory Hoosiers” on some teams and enter the 4th quarter with a 6-8 point lead and start stalling for the entirety of the final quarter. Some have even started it mid way through the third quarter. It’s one of the most frustrating things when your only down by single digits and that much game is left.

I get it’s frustrating, but you would rather have them force the action and lose? Doesn’t seem like a good strategy.

I like it as it forces the opposing team to play defense. Also the opposing team can opt to foul, i saw that in a Illinois high school game. Team was holding the ball, they went out and when a certain kid got the ball they fouled him (hack a happ). It ended up losing the game, but great job by the coach hacking the kid and forcing him to earn it.

Iowa will never have a shot clock.

What I'm saying is that the kids playing 3-4 sports aren't playing "club" ball out of season and thus, more often than not, they don't improve their skills as much.

Smaller schools obviously need the more athletic kids to play multiple sports to be somewhat competitive. One season ends and practice for the next sport begins.

That's a good thing. Kids shouldn't be focusing on one sport unless they're somebody like Joe Wieskamp. Playing multiple sports builds better all around athletes, and most college coaches prefer that. For 99% of kids, sport specialization is stupid.

No, I’d rather the union and association “force the action”. Iowa needs a shot clock.

And it will happen. The excuses are weak.

A lot of ADs and principals were not on board the last time. There have been multiple companies come in and offer to “buy” every school a shot clock. They still said no. All schools have to find someone to run it. Schools now barely have enough people to run the scoreboards now. Adding a shot clock would mean at least 1 more person.

Don’t hold your breath, Illinois doesn’t have one and they are usually 5-6 years ahead of Iowa in terms of athletic policy.

No shot clock in Iowa HS basketball.

Deal with it.
.

Yes, You have posted your preference numerous times. We get your opinion... I am sure you were right there denying the 3pt shot up til the last second.

The short clock is coming in high school basketball. It is only a matter of time. Deal with it flat earther.

It will be here within 5 years. That is on a national level. Iowa maybe sooner. Over 70% of high school coaches want a shot clock. Around 10% are indifferent. The rest of the coaches remember "the good Ole days".

ALL of players want it. Could you imagine how torturously boring it must be for them?!

Once the old farts in charge finally get replaced with some younger committee members, we will have a shot clock.

Get a shot clock. Absolutely absurd they don't have a 45 second shot clock. OT in high school games can be a real joke because of this. Borderline retardation to not have one.
No shot clock needed in high school
How do you figure? It's not basketball in OT when a team can literally pass it around the wing for almost 5 minutes and take the last shot. Woohoo. Sign me up for that excitement.

My kid does. Plays one club sport pretty much year around then school/rec sports in season, has for 5 years now. They don't have to play club sports to improve their skills either if they are motivated enough especially at younger ages.
Is your kid any good in the club sport he plays?

My oldest grandson plays 2A basketball and has 3-4 teammates that play Iowa Prep in the summer. Iowa Prep takes anyone regardless of talent. Just pay the fee and they're on a team. They haven't improved a bit and it's their third year playing. That's probably a coaching problem, tho.

We have heard the Iowa football coaches quoted saying they like their linemen being wrestlers.

But you seldom see elite basketball players playing more than one.

There are always exceptions, but small school Iowa high school basketball can be painful to watch, imo. It's one of the negatives of being in a low population State.
Jerry Pezzetti has been around a while, and he says the two best high school quarterbacks he's seen were Chris Street and Fred Hoiberg.

I coached in Washington and they have a shot clock there. There were maybe 5-6 times in a season (outside of late game situations when we had a lead) where the shot clock was a factor in our half-court offense. A shot clock penalizes teams that pound the ball and rewards teams that move it. Basketball is meant to be the latter, not the former.

Lol are you done yet, old man?........

Yes, You have posted your preference numerous times. (Good, at least somebody saw it. I was getting worried.................really worried.............like really, really worried.............do you believe I was worried? Because I was......) We get your opinion... ("We"?.....Well, now you're just flattering me.) I am sure you were right there denying the 3pt shot up til the last second. (I wasn't born when that happened. But if it would've annoyed you, like this clearly does, I probably would have done that as well. :))

The short clock (smaller clocks in basketball?) is coming in high school basketball. It is only a matter of time. Deal with it flat earther. (Lol look at you throwing put all these go-to chiding remarks. Labeling me as someone who didn't want the 3 pt shot to try and detract my character and then calling me a flat-earther because that's a f***ing insult in 2019. I'm surprised you didn't find time for mouth breather in there as well.

I know a shot clock will eventually work it's way into high school basketball, whether by choice or by force........but I guarantee you, it is going to be MUCH later than you want. And we'll dive into that with your next comment ......)

It will be here within 5 years. (Lmao 100% fiction. It's gonna be a long long time, maybe even after your lifetime, before the shot clock finally gets added to Iowa high school basketball for both boys AND girls. Deal with it.) That is on a national level. (No.) Iowa maybe sooner. (No.) Over 70% of high school coaches want a shot clock. (No.) Around 10% are indifferent. (No.) The rest of the coaches remember "the good Ole days". (The rest of the coaches are smart, and don't freak out over one low-scoring game at the state tournament.)

ALL of players want it. (Now THAT is a f***ing assumption lol) Could you imagine how torturously boring it must be for them?!
(Well I coach basketball and I don't see any of my kids acting torturously bored about basketball :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:)

Once the old farts in charge finally get replaced with some younger committee members, we will have a shot clock. (Nah, there's other issues that will be dealt with first across all other sports before they ever contemplate bringing the shot clock to Iowa...........and here's a nice parting quote for you that everyone loves. "If you don't like that, don't watch it."

I like your passion for this topic. Tells me you're not gonna back down easily on the subject. I like a good fight.

Just don't expect to come out victorious.

How is it that multiple companies have come in and offered to buy, install, and advertise on the shot clocks and everyone said no?

Iowa football is finally going to a 40sec play clock which is nice.

I just don’t think they will install shot clocks at all levels. I could see 3A/4A as a trial run. Then if it works move it on down, but still schools gotta find people to run it. That in itself is a HUGE issue at the smaller schools and even some large schools.

He is, plays club but also through the state program and travels regionally in the Midwest and will nationally when older. The one in front of him is traveling internationally in April. They’ve definitely improved though it’s a lot of time and money. When he plays rec or school he makes the team around him better. He helps the coaches with drills etc. to improve those he’ll be playing with in high school that don’t play club.

The boy's association is a crap show. No reason Iowa has separate associations for boys and girls. The boys ended up farming out the basketball television to Comcast Chicago, which not everyone can get. Nice work.

They do need a clock in high school ball. It's just not basketball to hold it for minutes at a time.
It has separate associations for a reason.
