Iowa finishes 30-23 on the 2014 season and I would say this season is a good stepping stone for what Coach Heller wants to accomplish. This team was fun to follow as they really did battle each and every game and there were very few games this season you felt they were out of. I do think next season will be a little tougher with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers to the B1G. I think Iowa draws Maryland, Indiana, Nebraska, and Illinois next year which will probably be your pre-season top 4. I am hopeful we will continue to see improvements with the offense and with a healthy pitching staff this team can do good things.

Any thoughts?

Im excited for next year, the roster will be full of seniors. If Booker doesn't sign after the draft i think he will take over for Zeut. The lineup should be just as solid as this year. Looking forward to seeing Klenovich and Parks as well. The staff should be much better, hopefully Kaufman and Martsching will be back at 100% and Hickman could turn into something special. If the draft doesnt pluck away anyone i could see them competitng in the upper half of the conference.

Hawksports has a full list of the 11 commits that Heller signed, he went after some highly reguarded pitchers the most intriguing is a JUCO pitcher 2010 Perfect Game AA, 6'5 Polley RHP

OF Samuelson was a UA preseason AA. JR. stats .586 and .660 on base 27 RBI, 25 Runs scored, 12 dbls, 2 triples and 1 home run.

he also signed another JUCO pitcher Heller went after depth to his pitchers,

Polley and Samuelson were Dahm recruits and nether made it past fall baseball before being cut.

It is only speculation but any thoughts on where Kaufman & Martsching would have fit into the staff this year if healthy?

Is Matthews only lock to be weekend starter next year?

Kauffman would have been the go-to left hander out of the bullpen and Martsching would have provided some critical depth. I think Kuebel is a lock for the rotation next week.

I pretty much guarantee that a healthy Calvin Mathews and Sasha Kuebel are locks to be on the weekend rotation next season.

I suppose Kuebel may get drafted. He was selected in the 31st round by the A's out of high school. Not sure where he would need to go to leave.

With that said I think Peyton and Hickman are the other weekend candidates with the other being a midweek starter. Hickman really needs to work on consistent control, his change-up, and endurance and he will be a beast.

I think next years team is better, but I am not sure if our conference record will show it. This year and next year the B1G did Iowa no favors....conference season starts the weekend of 20th

Iowa - BYE, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan, Minnesota, Rutgers

I would say that Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska will be the pre-season top 3 in the conference.

On one of the last episodes of the Diamond Report on BTN, one of the analysts thinks Illinois could be the B1G favorite next season.

I saw that. I think it's a given there will be no Sam Travis or Kyle Schwarber for Indiana next year. I have no idea who gets drafted/leaves for Illinois. I do know that guys like D.Johnson, Kravetz, Fletcher, Re.Roper, Krug are able to be drafted and Muck is a senior.

If I had to throw together a pre-season prediction for 2015....I'd go....

1. Indiana
2. Maryland
3. Nebraska
4. Illinois
5-10 Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Rutgers, Minnesota
11-13 Purdue, Northwestern, Penn State

It's so hard to predict because I think there are some teams that could be good and better what their record indicates, but when you draw Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, Illinois and another team only plays 2/4 and plays PSU and Purdue instead it's hard to tell.

Minnesota is a team that could lose A TON potentially and Ohio State loses Greg Greve and potentially Ryan Riga. Now if Nebraska loses Sinclair, Deleon, Bummer, Headley, and Kelly which I think are all very possible it changes things. I could see a guy like Kelly staying unless he goes really high. I could also see guys like Bummer and Headley leaving even if they are drafted in the 25-30 rounds.

Indiana is one of those teams I want to say without guys like Schwarber, Travis, Demuth, Halstead, DeNato, and even potentially Hart, Harrison, Donley (all draft eligible) that they won't be up there. However, I said that after Josh Phegley left and I was wrong.

who from iowa gets drafted next week. and who leaves if drafted. I was thinking the shortstop.

As has been said before Yacinich and JuCo Recruit Booker are probably the most likely players to be drafted and not be in a Hawkeye uniform next year.

I could also see Radtke, and Kuebel drafted.
