I was trying to figure out the difference between the northern Euro/Australian/Canadian versions of socialism and the southern Euro/Venezuelan versions. Venezuela is puzzling given the petroleum resources so I asked a work colleague who immigrated about 10 years ago, and without hesitation he said "government corruption." This would also seem to apply to the southern Euro model. What are some other differences? Work ethic would seem to be a biggie.
So now trying to apply these theories to a potential U.S. model, our work ethic is probably equal to or better than the Euros and our level of corruption is worse than the Euros, but probably not as bad as Venezuela. Does this mean we may not improve our standing in the quality of life metrics beyond our current 10th place without doing something about corruption in high places?
