Update - Coy Kirkpatrick called Coach Morgan late last night and committed.

-----

Caught up with Class of 2017 DE Coy Kirkpatrick from Madrid tonight and he picked up an offer from the Hawkeyes this week. Kirkpatrick measured in at 6-4.5 and 253 pounds at Iowa's camp on Sunday. He worked out at defensive end and Coach Morgan was the one who offered, telling him he wants to keep him on the defensive line in college because he likes his attitude and how aggressive he plays. Kirkpatrick said that would be at DE for right now, but he could grow into a DT down the road possibly.

Morgan has been staying in close contact with Kirkpatrick ever since seeing him throw shot put and discus at the state track meet last month. Iowa State was actually the first school in on him, showing interest since his freshman year when he first started varsity at Madrid.

Kirkpatrick's parents went to Iowa State, but he said he has other family that are big Iowa fans and he's turned into a Hawkeye as well basically. He grew up idolizing Madrid native Eric Simmons and once he made it to Iowa, that's when Kirkpatrick started thinking that's a real possibility for him as well. It's still real early, but he's definitely leaning in Iowa's direction.
