I read a tweet, then lost it. Actually a couple of tweets on some 2017 PF recruits we have offered. This is good. We are down one big this year, IMHO.

If we add Cook, we are still down one big after the graduating. I would like to see the addition of at least one big, if not two scholarships for 2017(assuming there is one player attrition. Might not happen tho, Fran is phenomenal at player retention, which cannot be understated) ... All other positions are sitting pretty darn good, especially after adding Connor.

For 2017, know we're looking at Austin Phyfe from Waverly. Theo John is on our list. Competing with MN and WI for him. Then there's Adam Trapp in 2018.

Not sure what happened to 2017's B.J. Duling who was supposed to visit in August. He's a 6'7" f/g from Ohio. He seemed excited to visit and I loved his film. Don't care that he's not a F/C.

Christian Negron is set to visit Iowa on October 26th. Undersized big with a crazy motor and some skill. Top 150 player in the class of 2017 from Illinois.

It's been mentioned on here by a good poster that Pemsl is up to 6'9". If we land Cook I like Pemsl, Cook and Kriener as our so called 5's. Though five isn't what they would really be, in today's world of college basketball and Fran's system I think they would suffice quite well. We'll have in 2017/18 Uhl and Wagner as well. So I'm not terribly concerned with another big.

I guess my view on that one spot still open in 2017 is talent, talent, talent. Whatever position. But, my gosh we are talking so far down the road that the 2015 class would be juniors. A very long way to prognosticate.

Almost all bigs are 4s in college. Adam Trapp would be an obvious 5.

Thanks Canada, yes, there are not many traditional back to the basket centers these days. Because Purdue hogs them all. ;) I was just trying to stay a step ahead of someone saying, "Those guys are 4's!", Yes, yes they are. But they can defend the five and that's what matters.

Agreed. We would have a good rotation of 4-5s in 2017 with a healthy Pemsl, Cook, Kriener, and Uhl filling in at 5. Another wouldn't hurt, especially since I know Uhl and Pemsl think of themselves as 3-4 players.

+1 Being able to defend the basket and rebound is what we need most from whoever plays the five. Someone who can post up and score around the basket or shoot the three would be a bonus. In today's game, it isn't unusual to have the guy playing the 5 rotate to the top of the key, where he can shoot or pass to physical wing players posting up. 2017 is a long way off, and it would not surprise me if another scholarship opens up by then. We have an awful lot of wings, and someone is going to be disappointed with playing time.

Agreed that someone is likely to depart for want of PT. But will likely have one or two emerge that will soften the blow.

"Someone who can post up and score around the basket or shoot the 3" sounds something like Jones.

The question is whether Jones can guard the basket and rebound, which is what Fran is going to want to see from him.
