Great news to have any highly rated talent visit Iowa but with the depth at RB, I have to question if at least one of our RBs is transferring out of the program. I thought Iowa was done recruiting RBs this year when they got Henry Geil and Henry has been to lot of Iowa games on unofficial visits. Stepp may have lost some of the Irish love due to his hamstring problems this year hurting his stats.

I hate to speculate and am quite sure IKM and Toren are the top 2 and they will stay. Toks is said to be redshirting as well and Kyshaun Bryan is just getting himself into the program. Hard to see Iowa with 6 scholarshipped RBs and only 3 usually see any real PT, Any insiders news of potential transfers? Thanks in advance.

If a rb rated higher than any rb you currently have wants to come, you take him. He's also bigger than any back we have, 25 lbs heavier than Geil. Most years we get an injury or 2 and have seen the 3rd stringer starting a game or so and in our last game, 4 rbs scored tds. The log jam in next years soph class will just have to work itself out. Personally I think this would be another huge get from the state of Indiana and I believe there's an assistant coach who's earned a raise!

Get skill players and get them on the field.
Also important to remember that having two backs complimenting each other seems to be the goal.

Geil is listed at 211. Is he really 25 lbs heavier than him?

I get wanting to upgrade Iowa's "skill positions", but sayings like this don't make sense.

11 play on offense, 5 are linemen, lately we've got two at TE, and then a QB. That leaves only 3 "skill positions," usually a fb, a hb, and a wr. Even if you want to take out TEs/FBs for speed, its still only 5 "skill players", that you really aren't moving all around. You don't want your big running back in WR1 nor your WR1 at running back.

Do we want better skill players? Yes, do we need a lot more of them? Not really, and definitely not "get them on the field" somehow at the same time. IMO, the teams that emphasize and over-recruit skill position have minimal/poor defenses (looking at you B12).

with offers from usc, georgia, lsu, mi, msu, wi and more, I'd be ok with him joining the swarm :D

we're talking about 1 kid, not "a lot more".....

While there may only be 5 players on the feild that would be considered "skill players" we are from from an abundance of skill players. RB seems to be building a stable but if he-who-must-not-be-named shows back up we are going to want as many as possible. IMO the program is lacking talent everywhere, I know I know something about small population yada yada yada....... We could and should have done better.

Def need to take a chance on this guy. Hopefully the hamstring is not an ongoing issue. Big time program (USC) interested. Like Kyshaun he could be a great player if healthy. Shows significant speed for a bigger guy.

You assume none of these guys can switch positions or play defense. Iowa needs speed and athleticism all over the field (and two-deep). Get the players and figure out how they can best help your team. A high school running back playing DB (LB,WR)? Yeah, that's just crazy talk.

Although I readily agree another running back is always a good thing. I categorically deny we're lacking talent everywhere. I'm not sure Ive ever remembered an Iowa program having as much talent as they appear to have on defense. Especially in the backfield and on the line. Linebacker remains to be seen and we will find out next year.

Wide receiver yes, quarterback most likely, TE I guess I'm not sure yet, O-line they should have performed better than they did.

From what I've read pretty much every team in the nation including, Alabama who had a ton of injuries on defense this year, can stand to have more talent.

Lacking talent everywhere? Damn, and I thought the equipment manager was showing some promise.

Don't get me wrong I cheer for all of them. We, the coaching staff past and present, would have more wins if consistently getting higher level athletes into the program was a focus. They relied a little too much on coaching.

Getting a commit from Markese would likely be a Stepping stone to other great rb recruits in the Midwest area. Maybe some of the other Indy boys can lean on him a little and get him to visit.

As bad as Bobby Brown is, No R Kelly. The guy is a repeat child molester.

No Soup for you.

I was thinking more about the words in the song than the person who performed it. If I had to filter by whether the individual performer was a quality human being, i’d Be fresh out of material in this day and age.

Markese plays for Cathedral High in Indy. A major annual powerhouse that traditionally produces a lot of fine young men who get football scholarships.

I understand but predators like R Kelly are lines in the sand that I will never cross. The rap/ hip hop genre brings out some of the worst in humanity.

Well Dude I guess that kinda went over your head huh? Did you just do a j? In the parlance of our time, im aware of the pedigree.

For those who say too many running backs, go back and watch the 4th quarter of the Nebraska game. The announcers were talking about Iowa running out of running backs who had NOT scored a touchdown against the "fearsome" Blackshirts.

Its kinda the chicken or the egg thing though right? I don't think the staff isn't trying to recruit higher level players. Its more like, with some exceptions they just haven't been able to sign a lot of them. Its not like they've just thrown their collective hands up and said "Oh well", we're just signing 2 and 3 star players so we'll be OK winning 4 or 5 games per year. Developmental program has become Iowa's mantra out of necessity. Having said that, I do like the look of the last couple of classes, and feel we're heading in the right direction.
