Omaha Biliew, one of the nation's top 2023 prospects, will transfer to Waukee after playing his freshman season at Dowling Catholic.

Biliew holds offers from Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and others.

He was gonna go to one of the basketball academy schools in Arizona I think.
Staying in Des Moines but transferring from Dowling to Waukee.

So Waukee will have 3 D1 players in their lineup.
Looks like they will be loaded......if there is a season.

If there is a season does Waukee just cake walk to a 4A championship? I know all this talent still needs to build chemistry and play as a team. Something that is easier said than done. These guys have potential to go down as one of the greatest high school teams in Iowa history.

Yes. They almost won it all last year playing 5 small forwards. Now they are adding a legit guard and a long, athletic defender. It won’t be close.

So did he live in Waukee and go to Dowling? What guard was added?

I presume he’s open enrolling. I’m nearly certain he attend Catholic grade schools in Des Moines in his youth.

Although I support school choice as a vehicle for improving academic performance, this is clearly a shallow attempt to chase a state title and it cheapens the game.

I hope Waukee gets upset in the state tournament based on this factor alone (although I’d love to have Payton S & Omaha B become Hawks).

Or maybe Omaha didn’t want to come off the bench? You realize he was down in Arizona ready to attend prep school.

Well hopefully the season goes off as scheduled, but I have my doubts. You just never know how things will go, Waukee is probably the presumptive favorite to win the championship next year, but they were probably favored to win it this year too, but they didn't.

Hard to believe that a top 5 rated player in the country In his class would come off the bench at Dowling but start at Waukee; probably one of the top IA boys basketball teams next year.

The fact that he almost attended prep school in AZ is immaterial to his school choice in IA IMO.

If Waukee doesn't win the whole thing, their coach should be canned.
I could coach that group to championship, with one had tied behind back.
How do the Hawkeyes sit with a couple of the Waukee guys?

Yeah he was a starter at the end of the year. He’s still pretty raw even though his natural talents are obvious. I assume this is more about being on a championship caliber team but anyone’s guess I suppose.

Maybe he'll take the approach of the IC West coach a few years ago and walk the ball up the court....something along the line of a 19-13 halftime score....

I will admit, I was pumped for that game...but quite watching halfway through the second quarter.

I could be wrong, but I thought that scenario was happening against IC West a few years back. Maybe it went both ways.

So let me get this straight....usually we are supposed to be up in arms when a talented athlete leaves his original school because Dowling recruited him away, but now we should be equally upset when someone leaves Dowling for a public school???

I’m in favor of athletes playing for their home schools at the high school level (regardless if they’re public or private) if the primary reason is to chase a title.

Give me the Joe Wieskamp loyalty model every time.

I don't know the backstory there if there is one, but to my knowledge there is no powerful Catholic school in Muscatine for him to have defected to.

There were rumors floating that he was going to join West High and play with Patrick McCaffery.

Yes, that is exactly the “backstory”. He certainly had the option if he chose to do so.

I’m not sure why BondHawk is so hung up on the Private / Catholic school narrative.

I have no dog in the fight, but as a vet of HROT, you should know that threads complaining about private school recruiting run a close 3rd in frequency to those about Trump and those showing boobs. This is just the first time I've seen one asking for sympathy for those schools when the transaction is reversed.

I vote that it should go
1. Boobs
2. Recruiting
3. Trump
