Hey Hawks!!!

I am starting a new thread for the 2025 season. It looks like the first Black and Gold game was last Thursday and a close 4-3 Black Team win over the Gold Team.

There appeared to be some recruits at the football game yesterday. It may have been mostly (or all) of the 2025 verbals.

It appears Coach Prater has left Campbell and is not the head coach at Memphis. It looks like Tristan and Kat stayed at Campbell.

Still no official fall ball schedule on the website yet. Will post it when its on the website with any info on the spring schedule as tournaments start releasing information about their tournaments.

Go Hawks!!

Not sure the Campbell roster is up to date. Amber DeSena is there now, and I think someone left Campbell as well.

Going to have to come out of the gates ready to go!
Face three potential World Series teams opening weekend.

Guessing we'll see more Florida tournaments on the schedule. Seems like we are in Clearwater and Leesburg annually.

Hawks have gotten a couple more verbal commitments for next year: Paige Opheim from Humboldt and Carly Potts a pitcher from Indiana.

I saw on Twitter last night we got a 2026 verbal commitment from Julia Roth from Dubuque Walhert.

Also, I saw a tweet a while back that Devyn is medically retiring due to concussions.

Doubt this is what MossHawk is referring to but thought I would pass those bits of information along.

Evidently Coach Gillespie is going to miss the 2025 season due to personal health reasons.

Anyone know what's going on w/ coach Gillispie? I'm hearing a lot of talk about how her 'medical issue' situation went down....None of it good and NOT what the program needs.

I found this preview of Iowa softball on on3.com. It looks like you need an on3 login to access.

Iowa Projected Lineup

C Desiree Rivera/Hannah Lindsay/Skylinn Pogue
1B Brianna Johnson/Devin Bowman
2B Jena Young
SS Soo-Jin Berry
3B Avery Jackson
LF Tory Bennett
CF Tatianna Roman
RF Devin Simon
DP Mya Clark/Hannah Lindsay/Devin Bowman/Devyn Greer

Editor’s Note: These projections are predictions based on previous positions and conversations with coaches. This is a gentle reminder that a lot can change between now and February.

Rivera is likely the starting catcher on opening day but Pogue and Lindsay still offer experience. The designated player role has tons of options especially with many pitchers being able to swing it as well. Simon’s bat has potentially earned herself a spot in the outfield until Moss returns.

Won't go into details about Coach G, but being down 2 coaches is going to be a problem. All other staffs have at least 4 coaches. Not sure how you even run pitching, infield, and outfield drills at the same time? I'm sure they will figure it out, but definitely at a disadvantage.

Softball America is previewing the BigTen teams. Iowa's will air Saturday at 11AM. Google Softball America Iowa Preview. I believe it will be available after the original broadcast on YouTube.

Softball America also has a preseason bracketology out

Big Ten getting eight teams in. This projection also has all 15 SEC teams in the field.

When I initially started this exercise, I did not plan to have all 15 SEC teams in the field of 64. However, once I started to put teams into the at-large section I think are locks to make the tournament, I felt better about the bubble SEC teams than I did teams from other rosters. I do believe it'll be hard for the SEC to have every team make it, especially this season with a few very young rosters, not because of RPI but it might be hard for them all to be over .500 to be eligible for an at-large bid.

The door is certainly open for many teams I'd consider to be on the bubble. The Big 12 could certainly get more than four bids if we see quick development from teams like BYU, Central Florida, Arizona State, Iowa State or Utah. The ACC and Big Ten have a handful of teams that were left out that could find their way in, such as Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Georgia Tech if all breaks right. The Mid-Majors are a little more in the dark. We saw three Mid-Majors earn at-large bids, which was down from the five that made it in 2023. There's plenty of opportunity and it's much harder to predict story bids in February.

I will say that if all 15 SEC teams make the tournament, it sure turns into a headache. In that situation, there is only one regional without an SEC team. That becomes difficult to manage when trying to live by the 400-mile busing radius. In my model, I could've had all three teams in the Ann Arbor regional drive if I included Notre Dame, but that regional along with the Los Angeles regional, which also has three teams within distance to bus there, would mean not enough spots for the SEC teams to not face other SEC teams. SO that seems like a true nightmare scenario for the selection committee. And with that softball should focus more on seeding 1-32 as the volleyball and women's soccer tournaments do than the 400-mile radius.

Opening day. Kennesaw St @ 3 & Tennessee at 6. This would seem like a scenario where you'd save Adams for game 2 & go with your #2 starter in the opener.
